What's the value of a used Dahon III?

When were they last made?

I'm looking at buying a used one and need a little guidance.

I believe they were last made in the 1980s. Some people do buy these as cheap fixer-uppers. I doubt if anyone values them much, yet, as collectibles.

On Ebay, I may have seen them go for as much as $100 not counting shipping, when the bidders got a little silly. Most seem to go for less. Personally, I wouldn't buy one for even the likely shipping cost of $40-$50. You'll hear of people picking them up at garage sales for $5-$20.

If you do buy this one, be sure to figure in the likely cost of restoring it to rideable condition. Any bike this old, regardless of what it was like originally, probably needs a fair amount of work.

Since I accidentally double posted my reply, I may as well edit the second one to add something. I know these older Dahons only by their reputation, which is not all that great. Some people do restore them, though, and claim to be satisfied with them. You may also want to ask on the Dahon forum, where there's at least one regular poster who rides a fixed up "classic" Dahon.

if you find a stainless steel version in excellent condition for 50 or so its a good deal . you have an almost classic with all the quirks and shortcomings,,,, but if you would ask me if I would ride an old dahon I would tell you no...

I am only selling them as they have improved DRAMATICALLY

again for a toy it might be nice
Thanks Thor
