I ride anything I feel like owning, pretty much. In fact I didn't even know I was a Clyde until this week, lol. Never heard the term outside of this site. I do take into account that bicycles are not indestructible unless designed to be that way. I don't do stupid things that would cause injury to them or myself. I don't stand or put excessive force on pedals unless they have CrMo spindles. I guess it's the common sense that comes with being 6' 1" and 220-230 pounds. I have everything from a 39 Elgin, to an 05 Schwinn alloy SS. All styles included. MTB's, choppers, beach cruisers, BMX, old Schwinn Conti's, etc etc.....,,,,BD

I have a 2005 Giant Rainier that I have been beating the hell out of for over a year now. I commute 20+ miles a day on it and ride the trails whenever I can.
I building a 93 Raleight M50 from the frame up as my winter/rain commuter. I love the steel frame on this bike.
A coworker recently gave me his old early 90s Schwinn Crosscut. Beautiful steel frame in perfect condition. I'm hoping to have it on the road in the summer time of next year. The last time I was one a 700c bike I kept busting wheels, I was over 350lbs back then and too cheap to have good wheels built. Now I'm well below 290lbs and this "road bike" will be a nice reward come summer time when I guestimate my weight to be well below the 250lb mark.
Here's to hoping.

My favorite ride is my old Bianchi road/cross bike. I also like my Fuji World touring bike and have a rigid MTB set up for bad weather riding. Just got an old frame to build up a dedicated roadie.

First post here, so go easy on me...I have a **** back (two surgeries, last one 14 years ago) and **** knees (both have had cartilage tears surgically snipped, both are horribly arthritic). I was to the point I could not even walk for exercise anymore. Bought a Schwinn AirDyne to try and find something that I could do to try and avoid dropping dead from a heart attack. One sunshine afternoon in April, I borrowed son's Mountain Bike - Trek something or other and went for a short ride in the neighborhood. NEXT DAY I went down to the LBS and bought a Navigator 200. It does have a comfortable riding position. But it didn't take long for me to start making a few changes. I hated the twist grip shifters, swapped out for some Shimano quickfire or something or other trigger shifter - much more positive. Then, I started hating the pedals, because my feet slipped all the time. I put on some BMX pedals with studs on them, they grab my tennies that I ride in just fine, the other son has some egg beater pedals and specialized shoes that they clip into. Me, I'd fall over at every stop sign if I went that route. Then I started hating the stem. It creaked and moved when I put any stress on it. LBS replaced it with some aftermarket stem Zoom? or some goofy name like that - but it is rock steady now. And about that seat. Made for a fat ass, and more room between the thighs than I'm built with, plus it had a seam that rubbed me raw. I bought a Brooks B-17 and love it. It's been a great one for me to get going with. I ride no less than three nights a week, usually 4 or 5, sometimes I can get in 7. The nightly rides are usually 13 -16 miles, occasionally 20 or so. Some paved bike trails, some country roads, some in town - some hills, some pretty flat I live in the Ozarks so it's a mixed bag. I love it, cycling has REALLY REALLY REALLY helped rehab my knees, strengthen my legs, improve overall fitness, lose some weight and change body shape back to where it used to be 20 years ago. It was really sweet the past weekend when my wife told me that one of our friends who we had not seen since I started riding told her she was lucky, you could really tell I had been working out and her husband just keeps gaining weight....

I'm considering another bike purchase soon, I need and like the relaxed and upright riding position, but would like to get something that is a little more road worthy and maybe some better components. No real complaints about the TREK in it's current form, other than it is getting harder and harder to keep up with the boys, especially the one that is in such great shape and is in the process of modding his Rockhopper...

1.1985? vintage Raleigh Wyoming touring bike with all new parts, 36 spoke mavic T520 rims, 32mm tires, fenders, 40+inch wheelbase, leather saddle, Sugino 24x36x46 and 12-32 rear, lugged steel and made like a bicycle should be. The most versatile bike I ride.

2. Rans VSquared LWB recumbent, the fastest bike I own and the most comfortable, no more sore backside, or numb hands....even on long rides.

3. 1974-1985 vintage lugged steel columbus tubed race bike with campagnolo parts, tangerine paint and real chrome, a real showbike, fast, sleek, 20 pounds (and steel) too lighty constructed for long term use by a clyde.

4. Not sure whats next....... new lugged frame (Rivendell) ,BF folder, home made single speed, different recumbent!!!:D

It appears that you do have an Atlantis now?

I have given some thought to the LHT since my mid-80's Raleigh is a little rusty in spots although I may just powdercoat it and ride it for a couple more years. My only concern is....does the LHT fork come with a tall enough steer tube to get the bars high enough? I like my bars about 1 to 1.5 inches higher than the saddle. I have short arm length for my total height and while my legs require a 59cm frame fitted the Riv way I need a shorter TT maybe 57cm and a high bar to keep weight off my hands. My Raleigh is perfect with a 22 inch TT and 59cm ST but as I mentioned, the frame is a little tired, being over 25 years old and numerous owners. My other concern about the Raleigh is the frame really being able to withstand the weight of a 265 pound rider and would the LHT be constructed of heavy enough guage tubing to better bear that high rider weight?
A new Rivendell frame is very expensive, even the production ones and they only make the Taiwan lugged frame for 650B wheels (not something I want) any thoughts? This whole process is leading me to the non lugged LHT frameset or is there something else ( lugged perhaps) on the market that may be suitable in a frameset?:o

I am a huge LHT fan. I bought my frame last year and built it up with a mixture of new and old parts. The bike rides great. I am 6'4"/265 and the bike handles my girth with ease.

I no longer have the Atlantis, I got rid of it when I realized that my Atlantis and Redwood were basically the same bike. I knew that Rivendell would never make the Redwood again, so it was the one that I kept. I bought the LHT with the intention of it being a "rain bike", It has morphed into a real nice looking bike with the addtion of brooks saddle, carradice bag and wood fenders.

As far as comparing a LHT to an Atlantis, I would have to give the nod to the Atlantis (if money were no option). Unfortunately for me, money is always a factor. I was able to build up my LHT with choice parts, all for the same price of a Atlantis frame($1400).

If you decide to go with a LHT, you mght check out Spicer Cyles (spicercycles.com) for a good deal. They were a big help in setting up my bike.

Good luck.

Here's my ride:
Kuota Kharma frameset & fork
Shimano Ultegra components
Mavic CXP33 wheels
Michelin Carbon tires
Carnac Helium shoes (48s  )My 16 year old son seemed interested in riding a bit, so instead of getting him a new bike (~$800 minimum probably), I gave him my old one (a Cannondale Black Lightning with assorted Campy parts), and got a new one for myself. I knew I was really into riding, and didn't know how serious he was. It was Providential, of course, because he hasn't really touched my old bike since.

I wanted from my new bike a stiff frame (I could shift gears on my Cannondale when out of the saddle) yet comfortable. The Cannondale didn't really fit me too well (too small for my long upper body & short legs), so I had been suffering on it since 1994. Reviews of the current technology behind carbon fiber indicated it held these two qualities.

As I was researching, I came across several online reviews of Kuota frames. The reviews pretty much raved about the line. I found PEZ Cycling News and their review of the Kharma here (http://www.pezcyclingnews.com/?pg=fullstory&id=3001). The Kharma isn't even their "top-of-the-line" frameset, that's the Khan, reviewed here (http://www.pezcyclingnews.com/?pg=fullstory&id=1670) (which I would have rather had, but couldn't afford). The Kharma cost me total, about $3400 with wheels, pedals & components.

If any of you are looking, I would highly recommend Kuota. After about 700 miles in 6 weeks time, I am no longer sore from road vibration, except my legs from exertion. It feels great. It descends awesomely as well (important to us heavier riders who can descend quickly...once we make it to the top ;) ). I currently tip the scales at 293 lbs., and I haven't so much as induced a squeak, let alone change gears.

Hope I didn't ramble too long :)

My favorite all-around bike is my '88 Trek 830 mtb, outfitted for pavement and long rides. It hauls me and my stuff like a truck. I have a Trek 520 that I thought I would ride more than I do. The 830 does everything the tour bike can do. Recently I bought a new Sequoia Elite - just for giggles-n-grins. Plenty of 'em. I also like my 3-speed alot. A bike for every mood, I guess.

Update:
The Trek 830 has died. Broken drop-out and it's clearly not worth any trouble. So, I found a replacement Trek 930 and the best stuff is going to be transferred over to it. Much better quality frame, USA handmade of lugged OX tubing.

Yeah me too really. I have begun riding home from work lately, it's a half hour of jostling over broken pavement and mud mostly, but I feel really good by the time I get home usually, so it's got to be doing some good.,,,,BD

My point is I have bike for every mood, too. A lot of them are heavy and older american stuff, but I am starting to acquire a few nice ones.

I have a tried and true 96 Raleigh M 90 that I rode trails in the Ozark Mountians all through college. I now live in Minneapolis and recently bought a vintage 86 Raleigh Trilite Scott Tinley Signiture model Road bike off of Craigslist. A lot of my nieghboors ride. I think I am hooked on the road bike, but I am hitting the end of the road bike season in Minneapolis. So smooth, and you can go so far so fast. I will probably spend the winter tearing the bike down so I know what is greased and what isn't.
