I have a travel bike, S&S coupled, that I take along whenever I can. I have a couple trips scheduled to Mexico this fall. I haven’t taken a bike along on a flight since the newest “gels and liquids” problems and am wondering if anybody has had a problem with an oil filled shock in their checked baggage? I’d hate to get to my destination and find the little “we inspected your bag” slip of paper in place of my Marzocchi fork.

The "newest “gels and liquids” problems" relate only to carry-on luggage. Checked luggage is unaffected. Not that you won't still find a message from the TSA...
that is NOT correct .... The latest scheme does involve the checked baggage as well... It also widely differe3s from airport to airport and so forth .. its all a worthless exercise as you still can send air cargo with deignated planes and that stuff gets loaded into the plane with half the scrutiney ( the "sender "doesnt even have to be in the plane !!! thats the real scary part.
But I wouldnt worry too much about it as the checkers have no idea about liquids in your forks anyhow
Thanks Thor

Those are the US-only regulations. If traveling internationally, check the website for that airport. But in general, you should be fine with liquids in your checked luggage.
The latest scheme does involve the checked baggage as well...
Please explain.
basically they do what ever they please to do ..... forget regulations ...
I had to throw away toothpaste ...shampoo, deo stick, lighter , yes even a matchbook from my CHECKED in luggage ..again CHECKED.... Carry on was even more stringent .in St louis 2 weeks ago( flight to Dallas) ... if that is not totally stupid i dont know what is..
But again I wouldnt worry about the bike, those morons have no idea about oil being in the forks anyhow
Thor
Wow, that's unreal. I guess I've been lucky.
