We'll just have to drag Pico, OC Roadie, Cleave, bitingduck, adxm, and the other fast guys out there to give her some competition. And she and her Litespeed probably weigh next to nothing, so we might have a chance of beating her on the descents, when gravity works for us, not against us.

lol caligurl I thought we were buds, what kind of madness is this!!

Actually I dont ride in northridge much. I used to ride up Topanga(the other end near West Hills), its a short climb but somewhat steep and you can be done with that and back to my house in like an hour if your moving decently fast.

Most of my solo rides go toward Sherman Oaks/Sepulveda and that region. I just find that side of the valley more entertaining to look at ^_^

Well, that got your attention, now didn't it, Ovoleg? ;) Perhaps, young buck, you should try NOT dropping women when you ride up next to them. Generally, it helps if you court them a little... :roflmao:

Hi Wheelgurl, welcome. If you'd ever like to go on a ride with me, I do many rides with friends, various groups and sometimes solo. For a quick 1.5-2 hour leg stretch, I head over to Griffith Park which isn't that far from you that has some hills and a loop as well as a fairly safe bike path (in the daytime only) that you can do intervals on. I'd be happy to show you. I'm not fast on the climbs myself but I enjoy them, and I'm always up to grabbing a bite afterwards (in other words, I'm a mix of "hammer and then socialize"). Also, if you wanted, you could ride Sepulveda over to the ocean in Santa Monica and back with me. That's a 33 mile trip but really nice. I went over with a friend, Bob, and two of his buddies from the SFVBC last Sunday. It was a really nice ride. And you get food on that route too! :D

And to answer, yes, the folks on here are very nice and helpful - as well as funny. As you can see we "tease" a little.
cheers,
m.e.

From my house I head over into Griffith Park, hop the gate and ride up top and down the other side (valley side to LA side or vise versa) every Wednesday afternoon......gives me a nice 25 mile loop, which includes the LA River bike path. Which days do you ride there usually?

It depends, but for example, this weekend, if Saturday's SFVBC Tujunga ride kicks my butt, I'll be over there for a "recovery ride" (which does not mean "lazy" just a little gentler) on Sunday afternoon around 3PM. Also, I use to ride up to Mt. Hollywood in the evenings (past the gate but not the full loop). Do you ride at night? I'd love to start doing that again but can't do it alone (I stopped riding with the group I use to do that with because of the evening they now ride conflicts with my schedule). What time do you start on Wednesdays? I'd love to join if I can get out of work in time.

What time do you start on Wednesdays? I'd love to join if I can get out of work in time.I usually time myself so I always get home around sunset. I live on the LA side of Griffith Park. But since my Wed afternoons are usually free I sometimes start early (4pm), do the loop then stop at Starbucks to pose before heading home...:p

Oh, so you're a "poser?" ;) Funny. Yeah, 4PM doesn't work as the earliest I can get off is 5PM. But if you ever want to join on a weekend ride, let me know. And where do we women go if want to pose, by the way?

is there a gurl only forum??????? lol. why do all the boys think i will beat them climbing? i'm a bit overwhelmed with this massive city and all the cars. i've never seen so many cars. i'm really used to long solo rides on back country roads and would like to stick with those 'till i get used to all the traffic. don't worry about me i won''t let a boy drop me without a good fight. also, whats the cross scene like here. i also ride cross but left my bike in colo. was not sure if i could use it here.

i put your name in for access to it.... when they give it to you... you'll see it below winter, but above general... but there isn't much traffic...

Yes. The gurls should be able to tell you about the gurl only choices.

why do all the boys think i will beat them climbing?
Because you're from Colorado. You're used to the Rockies. The mountain goats who are fast climbers haven't chimed in yet. Just us relatively slow climbers.

Believe it or not, such rides exist in SoCal, too. I hate dealing with traffic too. Not sure what to recommend where you are, though.

There are several places here to ride with little to no traffic. Griffith Park (which I mentioned before) is one of them. But your best bet is to drive east to join on GMR/Baldy rides (there is a thread going for that for a ride tomorrow morning). It's gorgeous up there and for certain sections of the road, no traffic (other sections, very little - but watch out for the motorcycles!). And last but not least, if you really want to get your "wheels wet" (figuratively speaking) with some of the riders on this forum, come join on the SFVBC Two Tujungas Ride tomorrow at 8AM (another thread on here about that as well). There is some traffic, but once you are up and climbing, very little - and did I mention gorgeous scenery? You might enjoy that if you like distance as well as climbing (I believe it's 75 miles and 8K ft of climbing). I'll be there as will Big John, so if you show up, there are at least two of us to meet you.

Welcome, try the club rides first, it will have a variety of rides you can pick a choose from.
