Road Cycling - K 2

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I just bought a K2 Mach One primarily because the salesman sold me on what a good deal it was. I'm fairly new to riding and would like any input as to the pros or cons of this model. I plan to use it for some local triathlons and weekend rides up to 60 or so miles. I've already done several 28 mile rides and the K2 seems fine to me but I would be interested in any feedback. Thanks.

What happens if we tell you that it sucks? You're already riding it.
Man, it all depends on the fit of the bike. I know that when I was a bike n00b a shop took advantage of my n00bness and put me on a bike that was about 3 cm too short for me. It was a great deal, but I'd never go back to that shop for anything, even if I flatted in their parking lot. If the bike fits you and you're happy with the ride quality, you're set. If it doesn't fit, you'll never like it at all and will end up riding it only rarely.
What's your feedback to us so far, outside of what you've already said?
So far K2 has been treating dealers very nicely and with respect. So I always reccomend K2 and companies that treat dealers nicely. Giant was like this early but I guess they are getting greedy and well, screwing alot of shops. I mention Giant because K2 frames are very similar.
You made a great buy and hopefully K2 continues with their excellent service to dealers which in turn ends up being great service to customers.

I have a K2 mod 5.0 and I really like it. I was a die hard Cannondale guy and bought this new bike based on the quality of the construction and the value versus other similarly equipped bikes. I have been told Giant builds the frames for K2 but am unsure of this.
I got this bike on a special deal at the end of last season for 2900.00 and it is full dura ace with Ksyrium wheelset. weighs in at about 18.5 lbs with my pedals and water bottle cages. I found all the comparably equiped bikes well over 3000.00, most over 3500.00. This shop is located in an area where the market for a high end bike is low and I think the shop manager was ready to get it out of the window.

jpljoe: My wife and I own K2's. I have the Mach 2.0 and she rides the Mach 1.0. When we bought her bike I told her I'd suffer by giving her my Mach 2.0 and buying the Mach 3.0 for me but she wouldn't go for it :)
We have been very pleased with our bikes. She especially likes the adjustable stem on the Mach 1.0. She also likes the toe strap pedals. Once she gets used to riding more we'll switch her over to some Look pedals.
The only negative aspect of the Mach 1.0 is that the brakes don't come with a quick release. If you have a flat you'd better have a wrench to loosen up the cable so you can remove the tire. I fixed the problem by upgrading the brakes on my bike and taking the brakes from my bike and installing them on hers.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy another K2.

Where have i been, didnt know brakes came with quick release, cool.
I'm really surprized that the brakes don't have some
sort of quick release. I saw that Tektro has a brake
without quick release but they are for use with
quick release on the levers.
Does anyone know if the Sora levers (are they on
Mach 1?) have QR?
If not I would upgrade the calipers to ones with QR.
curious

Giant makes frames for alot of people.
I don't have a K2 roadbike but I do have a K2 mountain bike. I've been pretty impressed with the quality of my bike. I almost bought one of their roadbikes when they first came out but ended up getting an Aegis instead. From the few testrides on the Mod bikes I took, I really liked them. I've been considering one of their lower end models for my wife. Also I don't know if it's because K2 is local to me but they do have excellent customer service.

The Mach 1 does have Sora levers and if they have a quick release on them I'm too stupid to figure out how to work them :)
The Mach 1 comes standard with tektro calipers which do not have a quick release on them.

Zack,
My levers (campy so it may be different) has the release
at the lever, what I do is after depressing the lever
there is a pin (a stop for lever travel? )
that I pushes in and allows the calipers
to spread further than "normal" for riding.
Don't know if Shimano is the same.
I saw that the Tektro calipers don't have QR, I'd bet
theres something on lever (of course I could be wrong).
