Hello!
This is my first post on these boards, so I'll give a little background to help with my question. I'm a 6'4", 160lb, 17 year old high school student in northern maine, who is becoming rather interested in the sports of triathlon and road racing. I rode my first tri last year, but I think I'm leaning more toward the roadie route. I did the tri last year on dad's old bike, a 61cm Specialized Sirrus from the late '80's-ish, with the 105 downtube group. The bike is starting to rust a bit, but seems to be in pretty good shape overall. This summer I could keep a 20mph ave on the tri leg, and I've been doing much more work since on the Sirrus, which is currently on a wind trainer in my dorm room(I attend the MSSM, a public residential high school).
I've been thinking about getting a new bike for the summer, as I would like get into road racing, as well as into college. The Fuji Team has been jumping out at me, but I've been wondering, what will getting a new bike give me? What sort of speed increase would I be looking at? Should I instead try to get some nicer wheels for the Sirrus? I have, as you can perhaps imagine, a small problem with getting bikes in my size, but the Sirrus seems to fit fairly well, maybe a little small.

This is purely a MONEY question....
..... little money > keep the Sirrus,
..........some money > buy what you can afford,
...............Lotta money> can you spell lightspeed or DeRosa?

As the saying goes "SPEED COST MONEY, HOW FAST DO YOU WANNA GO?"

I would go with a set of nice race wheels. You can move them over to any bike you end up buying in the future. Although you can spend just as much on wheels as you can on most bikes.
