How do I get the music back off the hard drive and into my living-room music system (without having to go through a computer)?

I could copy the stuff I want to listen to onto an iPod, then run the analog output into my receiver, but that would cause an additional DA-AD-DA conversion that would degrade the sound. My receiver has no "analog bypass" switch, so that isn't an option. I'd really like to stay in the digital domain all the way to my receiver's coax-digital or toslink inputs.

Does anyone make a digital music server that accepts usb input from an external drive? I'd really like an all-in-one box that would be accessable to my family too.

How much do you want to spend? The Yamaha Music Cast server got great reviews...but runs close to $3K.

I'd prefer to stay under $2K. Any suggestions at that price point?
