Does anyone have opinions on the Argon 18 line of bikes? I have read a few reviews which have been very complimentary.

Do not put much stock on reviews. Mag reviews are usually always paid advertising and website reviews I know are usually by the company or sales reps giving them a good name.

Call the company I always say. If the person that answers knows what they are talking about and knows bikes then that is a good sign. Ask many questions.

I call lots of comapnies that honestly do not know anything or anything on the sport. They simply buy frames, and sell them with their name on them. To me it is amazing. The other day I called a comany that is building some hype ad people think they are great and when I called to set up an account, they didn't even know anything about geometry. It seemed to me they thought bikes were all the same. I politely hung up and hoped they went out of business before customers start loosing money.

That's exactly why I was asking for opinions!

I've heard good things about them. I see quite a few local riders on them, and they seem to be highly complimentary. Also, they make a line of kids road bikes! I actually saw a father and his son out on the road, and the kid, about 11 or so, was riding an argon!

I've never seen a kids frame. I have a Argon18 Krypton and I love it. If you want a great deal on Argon call beach bikes in huntinton beach california and ask for bob or you can go on there website http://aroadbike4u.com there number is at the bottom. They have new 03 frames at closeout prices and no i dont work for them. If you do call them tell them Jeremy from san diego sent you. thanks.

I bought a used road bike (Airborne) via ebay from bob from beach bikes, and I can say that he was a great guy to deal with. Just thought I'd chime in with another recommendation for this guy and his bike shop.

Wanted to bump this thread to see if anyone had any more information on Argon 18's -- I may be parting out my new felt f15 and selling the frame (make me an offer) to get an argon platinum, and just wanted some more opinions.

I think the Platinum should be a great deal right now since Argon 18 just came out with a new model (Gallium). While I never rode one, I spoke to a guy who tested it extensively, and he compared it to the BMC SLT 01 and Merckx MXM frames. The BMC is a little stiffer, but the Argon was surprisingly well performing in that area as well, and it is supposed to be comfortable at the same time. It is made of a high modulus carbon, so it should hold up well. I think you could get the Platinum for about the same price as a Giant TCR, and the Argon should be better. All these bikes are decent, so focus on the geometry and fit more.

Cheers

I went to an Argon 18 seminar last summer and the presenter really knew his stuff (way more than the Lightspeed guy did who presented after him). They seem really well designed, maybe nipping at Cervelos heels. they also look very cool.

I own a Argon 18 Radon equipped w/campy and this bike is a bullet,I replaced my Trek with this bike.A lot of members of my club ride Argon's and love them! They all have the same geometry other than the Gallum I think.Anyway any questions let me know. :)

I own a Radon CZ, and I am moderately satisfied with it. It is nothing to write home about though, and for the money, a Marinoni frame or even a Specialized Allez Elite would be a better deal. I live in Montreal, so where Argon started, and for having taken my bike in for cracked paint on the head tube (after 250 km !), they sure did not seem overly interested in the problem, but more in my warranty date and papers. In the end, they did not fix it or even explain why it cracked. So...I would recommend another brand for the price.

Yes, Captain, I do own an Argon18 Gallium S-3 bike and I am VERY happy with the purchase. The frame looks very sexy although it may perhaps have one too many decals. It handles as well as my other magnificent bike, Colnago C40 although it is not quite as comfortable as the Colnago. But the Argon seems to be stiffer in the bottom bracket and it accelerates very smoothly. I have it equipped with Campagnolo 2007 Record which is THE only stuff in my book which the bike of this calibre deserves. There are other Argons available. Gallium is their top-of-the range frame. For further inormation look at their web page.
The only drawback that is hard to understand is a mere 3 year warranty on the frame. That STINKS!!!
Cheers Ivan :)

The krypton looks hot. frame is on the heavy side.

A guy a work has an argon titanium frame that cracked after 3 months of riding. Probably a welding falt, but none the less.

I am a large guy (6ft 4inch and 15.5 stone) who has returned to racing after many years, carrying some weight but still appreciating a good ride. I have cracked 2 Bianchi's in 6 months and although they were replaced without any fuss I had lost faith in the product. I was advised to look at the Argon 18 Galium Pro, what a bike, smooth, stiff and responsive, if there is a bike for all types of riding this would be the bike, it does not fail in any area and is the same frame raced by the spiderwick team in the TOC

If it falls within your budget, check them out, well worth the time qualifying

I wasn't going to reply since that would bump it up.... maybe better to report these types of threads without replying, so they drift back down the list ??

Why? Did Argon go out of business or something?
This thread could be like a time capsule.

Hey future people! It's BF from way back in 2010!
Hope you guys have solved that Gulf of Mexico problem by now! Peace!

Because it doesn't belong in the road racing forum, but in the road cycling forum.
