Does anyone have a local (SF Valley) recommendation for a Class III trailer hitch? Time for a real bike rack. :)
Thanks,
Vance
Don't you mean class III? Most "Real" bike racks will use a 1 1/4" or 2" receiver style hitch. Fwiw, shop around for a used sportworks, or one on close out. Thule bought the "consumer line" but there are some smoking deals out there. I'm into 3 trays with the flip up adapter for $200, found 2 trays on craigslist for $50.

Yes, I do! Thanks for catching that.
What kind of vehicle? They're stupid simple to install, especially for a bike rack since you don't have to do any wiring. I've done multiple minivans, 2 of my own, and friends/realatives. Hitches aren't that much either, my Odyssey was $125 a few years back when I bought it.

"stupid simple" = simple bolt on? I was thinking it was more involved than that... but that was just a naive assumption.
It's a 2001 Acura CL-S.

U-Haul is pretty reasonable.

After poking around a bit, I could only find Class I hitches available for the Acura. But as long as it has a 1 1/4 or 2 inch square receiver, that should be okay, no?
I found this. (http://search.cartserver.com/search/search.cgi?cartid=s-1547&bool=AND&category=l_drawtite_search&maxhits=10&keywords=2001&keywords_2=Acura+3.2+CL&GO=GO%21)
Looks pretty simple, they're claiming 15 minute install time, no drilling, and you can use basic hand tools. It's a Honda, so 12,14 and 17mm sockets/wrenches can darn near disassemble the whole car. 71 bucks for the hidden hitch, figure 100 shipped.
I had a trailer hitch installed by Eckhart several years ago for my boat. To use my bike rack, I had to get a adapter that fits inside the hitch receiver to accomodate it since they didn't install a "standard" size. No big deal and their work is pretty decent. I've had them do other things for me as well. Eckhart has various locations.

I have a 99 Honda Odyssey & need one for 2 bikes, can you give me some info about which brand & model you use. If I can install myself will be perfect. Thanks.

I bought a hitch at Uhaul for $59 a few years back. Everybody else wanted $159-$300. Handles 3 bike rack no prollem. ven carry my tandem on it.
EZ install. You use the wire(hanger type) to fish the bolts thru the car frame, drop 'em in a hole and put on your nuts. EZ!...Did minme in about 10 minutes. Then a week later, check to make sure bolts were still tight.
