ok been out of biking for a while and do a freshing up of my old bike. going to repalce the tires ,tubes and I have to change the brake hoods on the brake levers . the hoods were the gum rubber type and they just went to a very soft and sticky state.... yes there running off of the handle bars lol......

so can you still buy replacment ones my levers are shimano 600 ex

also tire size is 700c x 28c on bike now what is a good 700c size to use on bike now looking at Kenda K90 700x45 Reflective Hybrid/Road Tire at bike nashbar.com

when I bought the bike back in 79 ...yes 79 there was not the size and selection there is now

the bike I have is motobecane grand record

Not sure how good of a tire the Kenda or what kind of riding your doing. But I think your not going to be able to fit a 45 size tire on those rims not alone fit the frame and/or clear your calipers. You may not even be able to go past the 28's your using now, but if you can consider a 32; 45's are too large and really there is no need for that size even if your doing heavy touring.

And for being a 79, your bike appears to be in at least good condition.

Get 25's or 28, you'll have better speed out of that size tire and still sturdy enough for touring. Just buy something well made and nothing cheap.

If you find a place, let me know. I have two old white gum ones, and they're filthy. I'd love to either clean them or get new ones, but they're white, and I haven't had any luck finding them in that color.

nice bike - I'm currently fixing up a 1979 racer with dura-ace EX. I'll be getting replacement levers from banana_brain on ebay. He's got the goods - even if a little pricey at times!
