Foo - I got a skateboard!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ok, so it's got too many wheels, and the posture is a little different, and I'm still not sure where the pump connects to, but man is it fun!
My roommates and I all got boards at the same time, and spent a few hours tonight cruising around a parking lot, figuring out the basics. A lot of the mental barriers are actually like mountain biking, which helps me not to worry about that huge hill (does anyone know where the brakes are?).
Ollie success rate so far: 0/19
Longest manual: almost 1 second!

Watch your aim Tom. Wouldn't want my son injured :)
Keep at it donut. You'll get the hang of it. Just be careful to respect others' property.

What's an ollie? What's a manual? And if someone says it's an instruction booklet, they'll get the yardstick.

Ollie - jumping up with the board at your feet.

Stay after it. Pretty soon you'll be heading out to the Arbuckles in search of steeper hills.
I commuted by skateboard for 15+ years.
We need pics my man!
Here are mine, the one on the left I used for a few years. The one on the right was built and ridden twice.

My first board was made of wood and had clay wheels. Only about 5 inches wide, too. My next board was made of plastic, had the see-through urethane wheels, and was about 6 inches wide. You could lean the board over enough to touch the ground. This made it extremely maneuverable and extremely unstable. Boards back then were stiff, no flex at all. Then came the thin, flexy boards made of metal with anti-skid tape on top.
Ten years later, they come out with these skateboards that looked like grandma could ride them, about a foot wide.

Ahh thanks. Me and my friend always had a thing for darkstar. His had the soldier dude about to cut someones head off. Kind of gross when I describe it, but looked cool. Your right, I'd love some cool graphics on bike frames. I'm sick of solid colors. Blech.

This was my commuter, for years. I modified it with big scooter wheels to smooth out road debris. The mud on the grip tape is from commuting in the rain.http://img.geocaching.com/cache/log/dc1a509f-9779-45d7-ba86-8f4839dc8eb7.jpg
It's 11" x 38". I've only ridden it a couple of times since I started bicycle commuting.

When I see a skateboard thread on a bike forum...I always flash back to Napoleon Dynamite and his brother in tow behind his bike!http://www.drunkendonkey.net/eng/html/emoticons/giggle.gif
That Darkstar is a nice board, by the way!

pump? they dont need a pump. oh FYI you might want to tighten up your trucks so u can turn, the way to turn is to pop the nose up and turn the board. This helps when doing other tricks, like kickflips since your foot has to be on the side of the board
Me at 13, I'm 19 now btw. I couldn't find the picture of me ollie-ing over something.

I give guitar lessons, KT. Hit me up for some tabulature.
I did freestyle, downhill, street, and some vert in the Bones Brigade/Vision era. Then I commuted to my art teaching job for a year. Crazy , now that I think back on it....
Now I ride a Powell longboard. Rarely sees the sun since I'm back on the bike.
