I was checking out the new Trek Downhill bike on MBA.com and noticed a very striking resemblance to the Orange downhill bike. I wonder why they didn't go for a multi-pivot design.

Single pivot equals less maintenance and less play in the joints. I also seem to remeber hearing of some benefits of having the pivot point in that location - might have been in Dirt Rag's review of the Santa Cruz Bullet which I believe uses a similar design.

It seems that Trek built this bike up with an eye on the consumer as opposed to just being a pure racing machine. I guess with a single pivot bike it will be cheaper to build and Trek will be able to sell this bike at a reasonable price compared to the other overly complicated DH bikes on the market.
