Southern California - Carbon handlebars

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Carbon handlebars are expensive.
So now what are you listening to?
I hear a garbage truck. For some reason, he's about ten hours late today.

I don't know, I think they're worth the expense. I don't have a set yet, but I'd love to get a set of those integrated bars. The Wing by FSA, I think?
Right now I don't have any music on. I'm listening to the People's Court, 'cuz I dig on Judge Marilyn Milian. :)

I would love a set of carbon handlebars - think they're gangster (in a good way).
I don't usually listen to music while riding, as that's a dangerous thing to do with traffic and all. But if I were to bring my Ipod on a closed-bike-only-lane ride, I would probably have on:

I'm still using my 1994 ITM traditional bend drops on my current road bike. I listen to talk radio almost daily. I hate reading the paper or watching news on TV. SirLance's carbon bars broke.
Can't beat a good set of Nitto Noodles...

Maybe you're just poor.
The 15th, Fischerspooner.
I used to think my R3 would eventually have carbon bars. After my slight incident yesterday (you know the one :o ), I'm not so sure anymore. We'll see.
I saw a guy walking his bike down Rose Canyon bike path, busted carbon bars, lost it in a turn an snapped them when the bike hit the ground. :(

Do you miss Monday Night Football on ABC?
I love my Race X Lite bars, I am listening to Episode 20 of season 1 west wing

I was thinking of switching handlebars on my C'dale since it's a little too wide for me based on measurements. Carbon bars were out because I'm paranoid... until I realized my bike has carbon steerer tubes (not just the fork part). Now I can go full carbon so that it'll no longer be the single point of failure. :D
Dave, for someone who went with an aluminum bike for fear of carbon, you did quite well for yourself! Carbon steerer and soda can thin frame!

I hit a pot hole at speed once and cracked/bent my Ritchey rim. Carbon fork/steerer was okay.

Yep, "durable" pop can frame + carbon steerer tubes! On the other hand, that kick started an idea to get a durable Celeste-colored Bianchi.
I was thinking of Ritchey WCS, since their stem is pretty cool looking and very light (aluminum @~110g). I have no idea how good their handlebars are though... but yeah, the stem seems very nice at least on paper. :D
Some old HK pop songs.
SirLance's carbon bars broke.
No shizzle?
Wow.
See, I tell 'ya, I have a carbon fork on my bike, and sometimes I hit some pretty decent potholes pretty hard. Everytime I do, I can't help but picture that fork snapping and my poor collarbone snapping from a head-over-heels trip towards the concrete.
I'd love to find a nice aluminium fork to match the frame. It'd sure make me feel better.

New bike is usually the answer. Ask Voltman.

I wanna hear.
Helicopter - Bloc Party.
Oh, I forgot: when I discuss carbon-fiber handlebars, I listen to Thanks That Was Fun by the Barenaked Ladies.
Used aluminum ITM Millenium handlebars (anatomic style) for the past 3 years. Very light to the point that I sort of worried about them. Decided that I didn't like anatomic bars so I just switched them out for aluminum Ritchey WCS Classic (round bend) bars.
Thought about carbon bars but couldn't find anything reasonably cheap with a round bend. The Ritcheys and ITms are so light that I just don't see the significance of trying to go any lighter with carbon.
Maybe carbon bars absorb road shock a bit better?
I listen to the sound of approaching traffic and hope that my senses warn me of potential dangers.

You can post here whether you grew up here or not.
So, where in SoCal do you hail?
Oh, handlebars, ummm got 'em, like 'em, not carbon though

carbon bars and seatposts have to be one of the most overrated uses of carbon on a bike.

Moved to the OC when I was 9 (Chapman/91 area), then moved out to Corona for a number of years, then a few years out near Wrightwood, went to college at UCR, lived in Huntington for a while before moving away...
so um, all of it? ;)

I've been in Denver a year in October, I bought a house near 23rd and Quebec --the 'hood of Park Hill, in the shadows of Stapleton ... I don't see myself living anywhere else (in the country)...

So what do you listen to when you discuss aluminum seatposts?
All I hear right now is the chewing going on in my mouth, the fan on my laptop, and the typing on my keyboard.

Not really. People claim its stiffer, but I cant tell the difference. Seems like all the makers are going that direction though. I dont like the looks of the OS set-up.

i just got over the idea of having a full carbon fork. i don't think i'll be venturing into the high tech world of carbon bars for a while-while.

I don't like the looks of OS either. Alloy bars (Deda) for me...listening to Steady As She Goes, The Raconteurs.
BTW, I like carbon brake levers :)
I wished as I had a CF bike as I sat nearly 1.5 hours after a cop car and another car colided in front of us and hit an electrical pole sending into the second car - main artery in Riverside.
I listened to the cop cars sirens as they went by!

Great thread. When my bike got ran over ny a truck, the carbon bars actually survived intact. I am ditching them though, as I feel they are comprimised. I listened to classical music and Body Count while in my hospital bed.
You know, the more I think about it, the less I desire any carbon on my bike. When was the last time you heard about aluminium or steel just... breaking? Other than in a violent accident, that is.
I hate Foo. I don't like threads being moved there. I don't know anybody there. I want to talk and virtually hang out with people from my hood. Can't we have a "So Cal Foo"?
When I'm discussing carbon fiber bicycle components and grumbling about threads being moved to Foo, I'm listening to Build The Robots by Doctor Steel.

I hate foo too. There is a problem brewing with consistency. When the post about a track race in Southern California was moved to the Track forum, it occurred to me that every post in this forum should be moved. The ones that deal with bicycles should be moved to the appropriate bicycle forum and the others to foo.
Couple this with Stacey the moderator resorting to bully tactics complete with beating his/her chest in this and other forums, it really reeks. I am not sure what drives him/her to feel that he/she is better than others but I have not seen this behavior since junior high school. The only word I can think of for him/her is bully.

Is there any actual disadvantage to carbon seatposts?

You have to be careful how tight you make the clamp for fear of cracking it? :)

+1. It's a SoCal event, which is more significant to me than they type of event. I usually don't care much about track, but the race sparked my interest/curiosity when it was posted here.
Perhaps a moderator can explain precisely what is allowed to be talked about here.

My carbon-friendly seatpost collar takes care of that! (Not really, but still.)
