Classic & Vintage - Sanki Japan? University Bicycle Co.?

Has anyone heard of these? I have a couple of vintage bikes and I can't find ANY information on these makes. There is also a sticker on the bike with a serial number. It reads Sacto Co. December 31, 1976. I'd appreciate any tips! Thanks:)

Fix them up and ride the heck out of them. :D

Actually, since they don't seem to be names anyone knows about (yet), I would explore the componentry and that would help me to figure out what I have.

Any stickers concerning frame materials?

Date codes on derailleurs, brakes etc can help you place the build date of the bikes. (Only useful if they are likely to be original) vintage-trek.com is a good source for component date codes.

What you have is one thing, what it means to you is another... Are you looking to get them ready for your own day to day use? Sell? Restore to like new? Upgrade/update?

And of course, as with almost anything in C&V.... This thread needs pictures. :D

EDIT: I forgot the part about the sticker... this sounds like you don't need the build date... but your title and message sound like multiple bikes, so the information may still be useful.

i have an orange Sanki Sprint. it has indented tubing with black and white checkers. does the bike you have, have this kind of tubing? it was outfitted with a sr/suntour mix of parts. like a suntour gt derailers, and bar-end shifters. i dated the derailer as 1973 using the vintage-trek site. i came to the conclusion that the bike i have was a Pugeot PX-10 copy. it has the same color orange, and similar decales.

i rode it for a year as a geared bike, but last year, along with everyone else i converted it to a fixed gear. it doesn't have many braze-ons, only the top-tube cable guides, and the pump pegs on the downtube. so it makes a nice fixie. because of it's STURDY tubing i was able to put a rack on it and ride it solo from portland to san francisco fixed.

while on my trip i saw two others, which leads me to belive that they were sold primarily in the pacific northwest. i saw one at citybike in Portland and one in Eugene Or.the one in Portland was called a Jupiter, but had a "made in japan by Sanki inc." sticker on the bottom bracket shell. i bought mine off of ebay from a guy in the redwoods area of california. i didn't know much about bike sizing, but bought it anyways and was lucky. it is only a one centimeter small of what i should be riding. it is the only bike i have, so i ride it everywhere. it's pretty scratched up, but the paint is 33 years old! i love it to death, it is an exstension of me. it is orange with lime green deep-vs and purple tape and a pink chain.

so i second the comment that you should build them up and ride them, and if one doesn't fit, then give it to a friend. because riding ten miles with someone, is better than a hundred miles alone!
