Great Lakes - Looking pretty ominous outside.

I going to try to stretch my legs tomorrow...I don't mind the chill, but I refuse to start a ride in rain. I'll finish one in rain, but not start one....
It was the treadmill for me tonight. Hopefully I can get out for a nice ride Thursday afternoon when temps sky rocket to the 60s! Later.
What's cool about using rollers or the trainer is that I get to catch up on my stockpile of DVDs.
Tonight its Transporter 2. :)

Rubino Pro Slick and a mag trainer . . . BAD combination. :(

Rubino Pro Slick and a mag trainer . . . BAD combination. :(
. . . . . oh....do tell....
Oh, nothing too horriffic, they just simply don't get along that well.
The Rubino slips and sqeals a lot, irregardless of how much tension I apply with the mag unit. The Rubino also seemed to glaze over on the center strip but yet showed lots of wear on either side.
Obviously the Rubino Pro may have a harder compound on the center strip for longevity but a very soft compound on the sides for cornering traction. The cheaper tire I have been using with the trainer on my other bike (Michelin Erilium) behaves much better on the trainer.
Anyway, the noise from the slipping (literally every revolution) was more annoying than anything else. (I could hardly hear my movie! ) I'm obviously not gonna use this tire on the trainer again. Instead, I'm gonna go back to the Erilium until I get the CONTINENTAL ULTRASPORT HOMETRAINER TIRE (http://www.cambriabike.com/shopexd.asp?id=25339) to come in.
I went out last night for a shorter ride, but it was nasty heading west! I was going as fast uphill as I was downhill just because the wind was blocked by the hills. That, and the sun peaked out for about 10 minutes through the only hole in the clouds. Would have been nice except that happened right when I turned west. Not having sunglasses was my smallest problem, I was dreading that I was heading straight west with no shoulder and wondering if any drivers were going to see me with the glare. I miss summer already.
I did take the ole touring bike on some gravel nature trails at the end of my ride. I guess it's time to switch to to the mountain bike for riding so as to stay in the trees and out of the wind.

I've been running the cheapest tire I can get my hands on for trainer use. I bought 2 or 3 tires from Performance that they had sitting near the register 2 winters ago for $1-$2 a piece. I figured I'd run through them in a couple of months...turns out I am still on the first one. They stick really well to the trainer, but are a harder compound (same kind of glazing you were talking about). They would probably suck on the road, but they're great for a trainer.
Good point. I could just as easily get 16 cheapies or 1 Continental HomeTrainer tire and trhe cheapies would probably last me forever. Hmm. I will admit though I've never seen a tire go for only $2 at Performance - close out bin or whatever. I just bought a pair of Hutchinson Comps (?) for $20 apiece though. Maybe I'll drop by today for a look-see. :)

I've only seen them do it once and it was a couplle of years ago. They had them sittin gon top of the trainer displays next to the register. I'm sure they still have a cheap Forte tire for around $5 that would work for at least a year.

Looking pretty crappy out there again....If I didn't know any better I'd think there was a toe-nay-dough heading our way...
I looked at the forecast last night. Trying to figure out my weekend. I need to get a decent 20+ mile ride in to help me prep for the 1st. (Again, I'm the newbie here.) I spun again for an hour in zone 3 over lunch (working at home today) and hopefully I'll be able to hit the asphalt on Sunday. Although, admittedly, I coulda probably gotten out this afternoon for a sprint but oh well. Hopefully the weather clears up for next weekend.
They got hail on the east side of the City, but it's clear on the west side and the sun's a shining. Outta here!
Man this stuff is com-ing down!
Funnel cloud sightings too!

Wow. I really wasn't imagining things. At 5pm (after dropping off my new wheels (http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?p=3099860#post3099860) at UPS  ) the tornado sirens were going off!
That storm was pretty rough!
It's all relatively calm now though.

This was my view off the back deck tonight at 6PM. Glad I had the camera nearby. Can't see the 2nd one too well, but its there. The first one was really bright and clear.

The Rolling Meadows police kept coming on and interupting my Ryder Cup watching  . Apparently there was a Tornado sighted and heading towards Rolling Meadows through St. Charles ~ 5 p.m. I never did see anything or hear the sirens in Palatine though.
On a side note, I may go bike shopping with/for my neighbor tomorrow. Should be good times!

I'm at work today in St. Charles, and it's still here... I guess it missed us.
I heard that a tornado hit Aurora's east side and did 5 million in improvements.

I got a little over 20 miles in. It was raining on my way out, but as soon as I put my rain vest on....it stopped...as always...
Decent ride, but the bike is covered in all sorts of trail crap. There's an earthworm plastered to my rear brake caliper...blood and all...

Some dirt and worms!
How dare you ride your bike!

Our driveway was full of worms and slugs after the rain let up on Saturday. Sunday has been all about the yardwork. Cuttin' the lawn and winterizing a bit. Getting it done today so I have all next weekend to ride ride ride..... :)

Same thing happened to me on the ride this morning! I was doing a post-ride wipedown of the bike and found half a worm on my frame near the rear calipers.
Btw, my buddy just got a TCR1 comp from bikesplus in Barrington yesterday. He hands me a package and says thanks for visiting shops and doing research and so forth. I tear it open to find a Garmin Edge 305!! Took him out for the first ride on his new bike (and first ride on a bike in 5 years) this morning. Looks like the BFNIC non-garmin users list just went down by 1. Can you feel the pressure mounting Rob? Conform!!!
Sweet. The I really like the Black and Yellow look of the TCR C1. He will love it for sure. AND he bought you an Edge? A $300 bike computer for doing some internet searching? This is one good friend you got!!

I just got back on the bike in August after over 5 years. The Garmin really does make monitoring your training so much more easier.

Well, I did do some running around to various bike shops and so forth over the last few months, but nothing at all deserving of such a fine gift. I am actually searching around to find something suitable to repay him for the edge. He wants to join us next Sunday, but probably only for the 30 miles.

Ya, I haven't played with it much yet, but it is wicked cool. He gets his discharge from the Army next week and I can't think of a better way to celebrate than to hit the roads for some cycling!

You could get him a jersey or other cycling wear.
This may be appropriate:

I was going to get Psimet an Edge for all his help with loaner components and wrenching this year, but I hear the doctors don't want him playing with razors...

I already sneakily asked about the Army jersey and he wasn't interested. I did get him a couple of carbon fiber bottle cages, the ravx alpha that are very similar to mine. He was admiring them so I thought it would be a nice gift. I'm thinking of getting him a jersey as well...just need to guess the size and find an appropriately cool looking one.
