Mountain Biking - Found an NRS 2!

I found an NRS 2 in St. Louis so I'm off in the morning to look at it.
Ever feel guilty about spending that much money on a bike? I'm feeling guilty already and haven't even seen it yet! Oh well, I guess I'll get over it.;)

Buying a new bike, that`s one of my favorite "money spending" projects, too bad it takes me 5 year to raise money for a new one and keep the oldies :D

It's better spending money on something you enjoy like MTBing, than on something like drinking or smoking....

What's the word on the bike?

$1500 is a lot of money, but it's an investment in your happiness and well being. The enjoyment you will get out of your new bike will be worth what you spent 10 times over.

I bought it! Thanks for the support guys. Got the guy to come down 10 percent on the price too. Here's a pic before I got it dirty. Can't wait to go out and play again today!

It's dirty now! Rode yesterday and got it dusty, then it rained last night and got it muddy today. I took those pics when it was new 'cause I knew it'd never look that good again...:D

How was your first ride on the new bike? What did you think of the Disc brakes?

It was great Carlos. The discs are awesome. No noise and great stopping power. I also test rode a Giant AC Air with Hayes Hydraulics and couldn't tell any difference. These Avids rock!
Tested a Warp last year with some kind of discs on it, (not Avids) and they were horrible. Can't believe the difference.
I do notice some spring noise in the front shocks though. (Judy XC's). Read some reviews on MTB review and others said the same. Hope it goes away but it's not bad. Do you know anything about them?
Also the Koski seat kinda sucked. Too flat and hard. I put my Selle-Italia on last night. I hadn't noticed before but it's black, yellow and red just like the bike. Hmmm, must be a sign.:)
The tubeless tires on the Mavic UST rims are neat too. Really light. Minimum are pressure is 29 lbs.

You've just proved that the purchase was justified! :beer:

DG what kind of noise? There is nothing wrong with the Judy XC. It is pretty simple to work on. It has a alu. crown, they have magnesium stancions, with cro-mo slider's, and a cro-mo steer tube. The internals are simple. It has a air oil cartridge in the left leg, and a elastomer/spring with a dummy rod in the right. My reccomendation to you is dump the elastomer/spring combo and go with some Speed Springs. You can get them for your body weight. They blow the top stack you have now away.
As long as do not plan on doing drop off's and DH racing the Judy XC should hold up just fine.

It is possible it is dry. Unscrew the top adjuster caps. Remove the springs and lube them with Judy Butter. This is what Rock Shox reccomends, then re insert. No the spring is not in a oil bath.

It is normal for those to have some springy sounds, like a coil/oil bomber. Or atleast all the ones I have seen or overhauled has made those sounds. Rockshox I believe said to wrap the springs in shrink wrap to lessen the sound. I dont think a little springy sound is to much to put with for the feeling of a coil/oil fork. Do you?

The sound is not that loud and I can certainly live with it. It's just that it's a new bike and I wanted to be sure nothing was wrong. My other bike has Jetts on it, (elastomers) and didn't make any noise so the sound is new to me. Just sounds strange to me. Thanks for the input. DG

No, I don't mind. MSRP was $1500. I paid $1350. for it. Another shop where I found one wanted 1650! I guess they're hard to come by. At least around here they are! DG

Not really. He said at that price he couldn't do much more but I talked him out of a Lizard Skin anyway. I thought I did OK but I haven't bought a new bike from a bike shop before so I don't really know. How much do they usually come down? DG

I dunno. Sounds like a good deal to me. Running a bike shop is tuff, and shops don't make a whole lot of money on bikes, so I don't mind paying a little extra, he was probably right when he said he couldn't come down.After market stuff is where shops make money.

Fubar is correct. Owning a bike shop is not something you will get rich at. Most shops make about $15 to 25 dollars to sell a bike. Your accessories and components are where you can make money. The most money to be made is in repair.

Rode it about 15 miles today at Rock Bridge State Park. It's a blast!

It's a sweet looking bike. It's your fault I want one. Part of it is the

But on this one I Will totally disagree with you, I will just cite you a simple example, On My fave, LBS. I bought a Dura Ace Brakeset for C$140.00, but when I asked a another Bike shop near my house, the store Clerk or Owner quoted a price for C$260.00, my fave LBS, I think only make about $20.00 on that Item , but the bike store near my house will probably make like double or triple the profit, So I beleive this bike shop owner are in bussiness coz' they make a lot of profit on the parts they sell, and not on the repairs that they do

Dirtgrinder: this is all your fault. I want one of those things.

I brought my current hardtail into the lbs for repairs (I pretzelled
the derailleur and bent the frame. Oops).

In the meantime, I noticed they had the NRS series there.

The NRS3 (non-disc) is only $949! Good grief - I can deal with V brakes instead of discs. But I ride a 16" frame and they only had an 18". I ride a 20" road frame so it might not be too bad but
it was the silver/black color which I wasn't too thrilled about.

They also had the XT equipped hardtail for the same price.

They had the high-end dual-suspender with discs in yellow, but
that was the real spendy one ($3,000?).

So, we'll see. But I gotta replace that other bike - it's just not built to take what I'm dishing out.

Now you've done it. I tried the NRS3 out last night.

You've reduced me to picking pennies up off the street. It's
one more cent to ride nirvana.

Weirdly enough, the NRS3 is the exact same price as the
hardtail XTC SE2. Decisions decisions but that dually ride
is so fine.

Get the NRS 3 alien. One of my buddies just got a full suspension and he loves it. In fact he goes faster on it than his hardtail, and he can ride twice as far. He used to dropout after 1 lap, now he hardly stops before starting the 2nd. When I get a new bike I will probably get a full suspension. In fact, I've been looking at the NRS 3 myslef.
