I'm fairly new to biking and just wondering what's the best method for tuning up your gears. I'm fairly lame at this point with bike mechanics. I've tried using the fine tuners on the cables at the handle bars, and this worked at first ... but I'm thinking I need to try something on the derailleurs??

Isn't there a recommended sequence of things to try when tuning up your gears?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Zouf,
Thanks! This site is great - I was hoping there was a good resource out there like this.

If its been a while new cables always make things shift better. E.g. even if things are adjusted perfectly it will never shift right with crappy cables.

Also check out Sheldon Brown's advice on this here (http://sheldonbrown.com/derailer-adjustment.html)

But the absolute best procedure I've found is in Barnett's manual.

They'll all get you there.

True, but cable housings are just as important, if not more important, than the cables. They should be replaced at the same time.
