what does it mean when you feel like there is way too much pressure on your hands? When i'm on the hoods i feel like i'm pressing down way too hard, and then when i'm on the drops my palms are firmly pressed into the bar and that starts hurting too. what should i do? raise the handlebar? raise/lower my seat? set my seat further back?

Hard to tell without seeing you on the bike. How much lower are the bars than the seat? Sometimes raising the bars can help. Sometimes raising the front of the saddle helps. Try a search for some detailed info, there have been several threads discussing this.

You should first set your saddle relative to your pedals, then when that is about right, set your bars in relation to your saddle. You DONT re-set your saddle height to make your bars comfortable, this will screw up your pedal-saddle relationship.

adjust the fore/aft position
