...for those who wish to get their "Nyack legs", we will be meeting at the center of Columbus Circle 59th/8th tomorrow 9am. It will be a somewhat relaxed ride up and back.

I'll see you in hell!!

Did you build up that bike of yours yet or what?

.:Jimbo:.
10-02-06, 08:26 AM
neh, i gave up on the the frame, I know that I couldn't get it built up in time, especially the wheels, however, im still holding out luck that i may be able to borrow a bike from my store. Otherwise, i'll race my road bike, where I'm quite sure i'll find a fixed partner. That said, are you still goin'?

I did the practice ride over the weekend and... whoah. Now I need to revise my partner request: I need someone (with a track bike) who's already resigned to being a straggler!

I'm still going I guess, I just need to find myself a rider with a fixie. BTW: does a fixie with a front brake count as fixie?

How the hell can you not build up a bike, you have a whole week, come on man, its a track bike, frame, wheel, fork, bar, crank, pedals, chain, that's all you need.

10-02-06, 08:11 PM
AFAIK the time trial at the track has to be "legal". Meaning drop bars and no break. Also no quick release.

slvoid
10-02-06, 08:38 PM
Here's the plan, we rig up someone's bike with a thumb screw for the brake caliper bolt and the same for the lever. Then, we disassemble it while we're going down booth memorial, hand it over, and ride straight onto the track.

hahaha, too true! and yes, if one feels it necessary to rock a brake on the road/city sections they are free to do so.

We're trying to pull together a few "wild card" fixed riders to team up with those who show up solo. not promising anything yet, though.

However, if anyone is interested in volunteering for this elite unit, just give a shout in this thread or pm me or cookie.

i'm fast, fixed and without a partner, but i also still have ****ed up corneas and realized this weekend that they're problematic on the stretch down to piermont from the state line and up into nyack. blind! how's that for wild?

I also need a partner, and I have a fixed gear. I'm not sure how fast I am, but I usually beat about two thirds of everyone else. I'm better at street than road or track. Someone who is about the same should parter with me.

Its not a issue of time, more so money, and part finding. I was too busy buying some new stuff for my scott, i forgot to leave a little on the side for my cannondale track bike.

ah, and besides, when i did that track racing series at prospect park, i didn't do so hot, so i'm not too anxious to build her up anyway.

Come to think of it, i didn't do too hot in the cat 5 races at prospect park either, but that is besides the point...

Anyways, im goin' i'll be roadin', and additionally, i'll be riding from brooklyn to the start, so if any fixed ridin' guys want to meet up, on race day, ride a bit to the start see if our pace is par with each other, let me know.

Additionally i'll be doing alot of riding this week, i got alot of gear i want to try out/break in c.p, so if anyone cares to join me for a few laps or so, let me about that too, maybe this way i'll find a partner before race day.

Lastly, im lookin' to win, so if you have the same intentions, then im the one to talk to, if your goal is to come in second, slvoid is your man;) :p

I think I'll also need a partner with a 2x4 to smack jimbo upside the head while we're heading back from nyack. :p

.:Jimbo:.
10-03-06, 05:45 AM
hey, i gave you alot of credit there, i mean, c'mon, second...

btw, you and your partner chasing me will only help me, the added incentive on getting to the finish while avoiding a 25mph moving concussion has to shave off atleast 3 minutes or so! :D

ha nice. cant wait to see you guys out there!

in terms of the bike being "track ready", we just mean, no brakes. so, if you rock a brake back from nyack, just take it off at the track. you will have time. you can have qr's and bulls.

for updates, check this page in the next couple days.

feel free to pm me, or email with questions...

also, 2 fixed bikes can race together, just not 2 road bikes.

All ya gotta do is gmap (http://maps.google.com/) it folks!

Do yer homework or pray you can stay on a wheel that day. :D we haven't provided any routes since there's many ways to get around...it wouldn't hurt to go over a map & familiarize oneself with the lay of the land, just to be sure.

Dood, you're fast enough on the road/track that even if you take it really slow going from the GW to Kissena you'll still win.

I too think some of these guys on fixies take some insane risks and the only reason why they're alive is because the drivers don't want to raise their insurance premiums with an accident. I used to take risks too but lately with a half million insurance policy riding on my life, I'm trying my hardest not to have any of my friends and family cash that in. There's more to life than just riding a bicycle. On the other hand, it is fun. Riding around with cars at 20-30mph is ok. Riding around with cars buzzing you at 50-60mph, I try not to do (i.e. in the middle of queens blvd). I guess you can always ride like a maniac back from nyack and take it easy on the streets. Or take it easy from nyack and ride fast enough to reach 30-40mph to keep up with the cars in NYC.

whatever. you are safer in traffic when you ride fast in the middle of the rioad than when you ride slow on the side. and you are safer when you are away from packs of cars than when you are in a fast-moving bunch, hence running red lights. plus, **** cars. If I have eye contact, I'll get in their way and have them hit the brake. that's what they get for being cars. then again, I have a brake too, and that makes all the difference sometimes.

Probably not safer diving into 4-5 lanes of moving traffic against the light.
