Rides and Races - RACE! NYACK to THE TRACK: SUNDAY OCT.8 - BE THERE!

On October 8th we present to you a challenge:
A flat-out open road, city street and track race that runs from Nyack to Kissena.

HERE'S THE DEAL:

Racers must register in 2-man teams. This is a team race. At least one team member MUST be on a track bike.

On the morning of race day there will be a relaxed group ride from the city up to Nyack and the start line. That afternoon, the race begins. Teams will wind their way back home to NYC and through the beloved city streets that lead to Kissena Velodrome, where they will then compete in a Time Trial for points and victory.

HERE'S THE FUN FACTS:

This race is not as hard as one might think. This race is about pacing yourself and riding smart - not just fast. Remember what happened to the Hare? That's right - they took him out back and shot him for what he done.

Strategy is a deciding factor in this race as always. Think man, think!

no. no. no. the warmup ride finishes there. then the hard bike ride starts there and ends at the cusp of long island. the long running nyack ride is mistaken and has been living a lie--a parallel life to the long running, underground, masochistic n'yack to da track.

I've never rode to Nyack before but judging from the map it looks like it's about 30 miles from downtown manhattan. Is this right?

if your going to race i highly recommend doing the ride before hand. I did it today and bonked big time!

I did a century recently and 25 miles with about 1000' elevation change last month in SF. I've never bonked but I've come close. Then again, I haven't done many long hills on the fixed wheel. Whatever. I think it'll work out though I don't expect to place. So, who wants to be my partner!?

It is 18 miles from Nyack to GWB and about 12 more to Kissena velodrome, nobody is going to bonk except Brooklyn :p

sounds like a lot of fun, i wish i had saturdays free!

Maybe it wasn't a total bonk for me. My calves cramped up making very difficult to mash up the hills and spin down the hills.

From Columbus circle to the start is 20 miles, if you riding in from Brooklyn you gonna be getting in 25-30 miles before the race starts...just so you know for the low mileage peeps.

It is 18 miles from Nyack to GWB and about 12 more to Kissena velodrome, nobody is going to bonk except Brooklyn :p

We have to go through the palisades and climb up to alpine instead of taking 9W going to nyack so we can make sure he bonks again, otherwise there are no guarantees.

i've been wondering if the triboro is a better way into queens than the qnsboro for this race.

the one and only time I took the triboro from queens to the bronx I had to walk up two seperate flights of stairs and walk down two more. It totally sucks, unless there's some other secret bridge to try. Taking the car path on the triboro will probably get you dead or arrested.

Sandbagging already? Everyone watch out for his HID. He'll probably mount it on his seatpost and try to blind everyone into riding into traffic.

Well as you know, I spent all summer moving into and setting up my apt, so naturally, I'm out of shape.

BTW: The triboro bridge is about 2 hairs wide, usually not too much of a problem if you're not going fast, but there are a lot of stair cases. Queens boro takes you straight into queens.
