At least that's what I think it is. Can you guys confirm that the large black spacer goes left side. Is this wheel disc compatible?

strange - it doesn't look like an ISO disc hub but the large spacer on the left makes me think it might be a Centrelock style mounting system unique to shimano and DT hubs. A picture of the pertinent side might be a good idea!

I doubt it.
Disk hubs have a flange close to the hub that has tapped holes.

I suspect that it is a disc hub. If you would remove the wheel from the bike and give us a shot of the left side of the hub I could tell you for sure.

Edit: pics aren't in great focus where I wanted it, but a google for that serial is pretty useful: http://www.google.com/search?q=hb+m765
If that is correct then I'm pretty happy. Didn't realise I was disc ready there :) Any recommendations?

I doubt it.
Disk hubs have a flange close to the hub that has tapped holes.A Shimano center lock hub won't. They use a lock ring like a Shimano cassette. In fact, you use the same tool to mount a center lock rotor as you do a Shimano cassette. After looking on Shimano's website I am pretty positive that is a Shimano center lock hub. That rubber cap comes off to expose the splines that the rotor slides on to.

Yes, it's a centerlock disc hub with the rubber dust cap on it-
