Mountain Biking - New guy here

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Sup everyone, ive been riding since I was about 6 and havent gotten off a bike since then ... anyways, I hope to become a valued member of your community here. Ill post some pics of my rides a little later.

Klien Mantra...that is one funky rig...and well praised by all who ride them. I've got a good friend in Denver that rides nearly the exact same rig!

cool, I think the entire time I have owned this bike (since april 2001) I have seen like one other one in person. The bike of choice around here seems to be the santa cruz superlight, and the guy I got it from now has .... what a suprise, a superlight.
I love this bike though, I kinda wanna upgrade the rear shock to a newer one so I can have lockout for the uphills, as well as adding an Easton CF riser bar, because my dad wants to put a riser on his raliegh so it gives me an excuse.
Disc brakes would also be nice, but I havent looked into it much.
I get a lot of looks from people when driving around with it on my roof rack because it stands out so much from other bikes.
The pictures of my car are from my road trip to fort collins co, went to visit one of my friends there during my quarter break, wish I woulda brought my bike with me and ridden at a few places, but my parents didnt like the idea of me having it with me since I was traveling alone, and there are probably a lot of people in UT/CO who know what its worth and may try to steal it.
I ride locally a good amount though, Annadale State Park over in Santa Rosa has to be one of my favroite places, but I also ride at Los Posadas Forest behind Pacific Union College in Angwin.
Come summer I know I will go to Downieville during my quarter break from school, and hopefully I can get up to Northstar and run the downhill on a few weekends this summer also. I am trying to stay fairly fit during this winter season, and ride at least once a week, if I dont go mountain biking, I generally do about a 10 mile road ride.
Anyways, enough typing for now.

melt- hi and nice bike! i like seeing pictures here--
sounds like you've been to some cool places. - have you ever ridden up in the cascades or coast range in oregon/washington? not too far from napa valley-- i know there's some nice ridin where you are though-
peace
never been riding up north really, I am going to a car meet sometime in May this year in Bend OR, so I plan to bring the bike with because one of my dads business associates lives up there and he said he would show me come cool places to run ... I have snowboarded at Timberline and Mt hood ski bowl back in Dec 2000, lots of fun, it was amazing to see the reasonable prices you guys have compared to the Lake Tahoe area resorts here.

Nice ride man, I forget what year it is that they changed the frame design but looks good. What wheels are those? I like em.
Anyways, I dont think ive ever seen the newer one in person, is the mantra even still produced? Guess I should just check out the website and find out ... :p

I thought those bikes were extinct:p
Welcome to the forum. Being from the Bay area are you going to make the drive to Monterey for the Sea Otter? Also, you race DH on that bike? If you do are you fast on it? If you are I gotta give you props. That bike was not ment for such abuse but it looks like it is in good shape.

no racing for me ... but I am going to try to make it to sea otter this year and run, last year I was going to go spectate but I got the weekends mixed up.
I run downieville and northstar for recreational riding, I can make it down downieville in about 50 minutes ... not sure if that is 'good' or not.
When I go and run downhill I kinda ***** foot with it and dont do any drops or anything like that, I know I could ride a lot harder, but I know this bike wont last if I do.

I think they changed the frame in 1999, the 2 lower models were just a straight tube and then 2 upper models had the curve. They were mavic crossmax wheels. I dont think they produce the mantra at all now.
