Commuting - What a score

I scored two lightweight merino wool sweaters and a duofold 45% wool and 55% poly, base layer top at the Salvation Army store for $ 11.00 for all three.:eek: Just what I had been looking for. I'm gonna be toasty and dry this winter: I love a good deal The duofold still had the store tags on it never been worn:D

Nice. I went to the Salvation Army store a couple of weeks ago. They had nothing wool. Made me sad. :(

Im just discovered they opened a new goodwill near my work. Goodwill stores in richer areas are quite nice. I must take an extra long lunch one of these days.

Same thing happened here. I found pretty much everything (except the silk undies) I need to go skiing this year for under 40 dollars.

I hit the local thrift stores two or three times a week and make out like a bandit! I got a Raleigh SuperCourse composite bicycle (in my size no less) with one broken spoke for $20 without a scratch on it.
Specialized CrossRoads Hybrid with a 48/38/28 BioPace crank for $5. New rubber racks front and back, and trekking bars made it my loaded touring bike. I picked up a custom built, one of a kind, Bridgestone TT bike with full on Profile Aero bars, new Shimano 600 drive components, and 105 hub, shifter, and brake group for $50, you cant tell it from new. As for bike specific clothing, someone around here is my size and must purchase it, hang it in the closet for a season, and buy new stuff for the next season! Most of it never has the tags removed and thus, never worn. I am the best dressed, one-year behind the trend, biker around. Typical cost for 6-pannel spandex shorts is $1.99. Jerseys show up with $1.50 T-shirts.

You must have the best thrift stores EVER, or else the dumbest people getting rid of stuff. I've on occasion perused some of the thrift shops, only to find a dozen or so badly beat up x-mart specials.

I have a nice selection of Thrift Store wool sweaters for my commute. Typical cost was $2-$4. Another bargain is Pendleton wool shirts. Seems Large/XLarge people frequently make laundry errors that shrink them down to a nice Medium which fits me just fine, again typical price is $5. Never found any cycling clothing but did find an apparently unworn pair of Carnac shoes for $4.

10-4 on the pendleton I have a couple of them I got as gifts and they are great for cold weather riding
