It took me over a year to figure out how to post pics, so could someone just explain this one to me?

Edit: Okay I see it.

Wow...that's wild. I honestly don't think I'd actually use it....but it has a good "cool factor". :)

Namenda

Cool that you can pause it.

Wow, wild is right. As long as it doesn't bog down the speed of the server, I say it's cool. Not sure how often I'd use it, but is interesting to see new posts pop up in real time. Really shows how 'active' the forum is!

Siu Blue Wind

okay. Nevermind. You know, if I just use my brain I can actually figure this out. Dang.

It's neat, but is there anyway one can set what forums they want to see?

Wouldn't seeing a bunch of new posts in real time without refreshes kill advertising revenue?

Joe Gardner
09-21-06, 09:16 PM
In the near future you will beable to view only subscribed forums.

For example, I am subscribed to Foo, Intros and General Discussion. Rather then viewing all posts, I will have the option to just view threads and posts in thoes 3 forums.

Awesome. I can't wait for that.

Or maybe users will stay on the site longer? If I see revenues go down, I'll slap an ad on that page. :)

Don't ask for two pieces of cake if you are only offered one, Chadasm.....;)

:D But I can't stand chocolate without vanilla.

i don't mind seeing all the forums.... shows me what's happening in the WHOLE forums... rather than just the "little world" of socal!

nice feature!

jschen
09-21-06, 09:19 PM
Yeah, being able to spy on subscribed forums would help. Also, just FYI, it's a bit buggy in that it's attributing some posts to the wrong threads.

You'll get sick of certain forums (won't say which) soon enough. :p

I see you through my spy glass baby. . . .

Nicely done, Joe. AJAX is fun stuff indeed. Now all those people who hit "View New Posts" every ten minutes can just leave this up

(not that I fall into that category mind you. I mean, if work is slow or something)

Joe, you could make some more $$ by making spy available for free for a limited time and then after a certain time make it for red stars only....

Like one of those free-preview weekends on cable where you get a premium channel for a few days to encourage folks to sign up full time.

Just thinking financially.... :D

I like Lotek's idea of setting it to spy on a user. But I'm a bit evil like that. ;)

 @ the Caligurl reference, not sure what the lag time is on the Spy bot, but there's been several times where I swear she has to have a couple windows and monitors going to post that quick. I can't keep up with IMs that fast, let alone forum posting. (and isn't there a flood prevention limit too?) :p

Can it be setup to be isolated to only the forums I watch...haha that would rule.

Even if it doesn't thats pretty cool.

That's pretty cool. Though I'm not much on features. I think I've only subscribed to one thread and that was by accident.

But, as an aside, good work on the ads to the left. Never have I been more motivated to purchase a membership (most likely beginning of next month).
