Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Bike sizing - do you follow the "formula"

I'm 6'5" - 230lbs and I ride 2.2K miles a year hauling my fat butt back and forth to work.

My "cycle dude" inseam is 37" (with a moderate scrunch factor :D )

Now if you follow "0.67 * inseam" that says I'm a 62cm-63cm frame but I heard people say once you are "out of the norm" all of the cookbook forumlas are a bit bogus.

What's your inseam? What road frame size fits you? What mtb frame size fits you? What cross frame fits you?

37" - road 64 cm, cross - I'll have to measure it... mtb is a 21" but the seats up a mile and I've got major bar extensions.

32" inseam = 58cm road frame = "L" MTB frame.

There are some good ones out there. Although, nothing beats the feedback of the a$4 in the saddle -- assuming you are not buying a frame/bike on-line.

I actually did just buy one without a test ride - online purchase - man how can that work! Dewey - you are a moron. I figure "it's a learning experience." Hey, if I can do 16,000 miles on a mountain bike I can do anything ;)

I'm 6'4" and about 240...I rode 62cm frames for years (biggest most shops stock, and they always said "It'll be fine, we'll put a longer post on it"), but when I bought my Atlantis, Rivendell's fit chart put me on a 65. They didn't have one in stock, so I ordered a 64, and I was instantly more comfortable than I'd been on a bike since I was a kid.
I still have a couple of my old bikes, including one I've ridden at least 12,000 miles, and it feels WAY too tight for me now. I can hardly believe I rode it as much as I did.

My life story! I just orded a 64cm and now I'm die'n to see how it fits. I've been cramped up on a mountain bike for last 16,000 miles and I'm sick of it.

I really think you simply have to go to your local Bike shops and just ride different sizes. I went through the computer fitting thing and came out with a 55 cm. I feel much better on a 54 cm frame. Its not just stand over height either. For me the length of the top tube is critical.......
