Bicycle Mechanics - Road bike cabling question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I am getting ready to install some Ultegra shifters on my bike. Right now I have the 105's...and they have this barrel adjuster about 2 inches off of the shifter, inline on the cable housing. Since, I have to pull the cables when I install the new shifters, I was thinking about installing a new set of cables in the process. What do I do with that inline barrel adjuster? Do I just use that part of the housing with my new cables? Since I have never cabled a road bike, I am unfamiliar with how the cable runs from the derailleur, through that barrel adjuster, then to the shifter.
Thanks,
Paul
Typically the inline adjusters you have are used when there are no adjusters on the fittings on the downtube that your der housing fits into. You can keep the inline fittings if you wish, using them with new outer housings, or if your existing housings are in good shape, you can replace just the inner cables.
Thanks...one other thing...is it difficult to install barrel adjusters that go on the down tube instead of the inline adjusters I currenlty have?

it depends on your frame. those inline adjusters are probably there because you have no threaded bosses on the DT to put barrel adjusters on.
