Southern California - Should the Santa Monica's be avoided during the fire?

Anyone ridden there this week?

I'm also thinking about Grand Tour Lite on Sunday - but breathing ash is not fun. :(

a bunch of us are signed up for the GTL..... i'm hoping that they'll get it out in the next two days (fat chance!)

and now they are saying the winds are gonna be WICKED strong.... 40 mph with 60 mph gusts....

As of yesterday, I would say don't worry about it. I did a ride in the Conejo after work and the air was fine. The smoke was blowing in a different direction and did not affect me at all.

One way or another that ride will have wind, so Extort & Keith can look forward to half of a ride with a tailwind and half of a ride with a headwind.

I'll be providing support on the ride, in the morning I'll be somewhere on San Francisquito providing water, and after that roving SAG between there and the Windmills by Tehacaphi.

I'll be hanging with my buddy Mike (brown Cannondale R2000, yellow helmet) during the day and I'll be riding the red and black Basso with a red and gray helmet and red camelback waistpack.

Is this an organized ride or on your own? I've done Wrightwood to Mojave, most of it is the same route. Love the ride on Sierra Highway....

It's actually the Tour of Two Forests, the route was changed due to the Day fire to the first 100 miles of the Furnace Creek 508, then turn around and back the same way. I rode with Keith today, he finished 4th,I think, in around 11 1/2 hours. He said there were headwinds for the first 90 miles, then some crosswinds, then tailwind for the rest of the ride. He said he hit 62.5 mph on the steep part of San Francisquito!
BTW, the Mapquest map shown above is not the actual route, they went up through Leona Valley.
