Pacific Northwest - Fun Rides West Of Portland?

I'm just moving to Beaverton and I would love to get the scoop on some safe and bike-friendly rides in the area - ideally a scenic and not-too-trafficky 30-70 miles is what I have in mind. Anybody have a favorite route or a favorite place to get suggestions for routes in the area?

I'm also looking for people to ride with (I'm a pretty mellow-pace rider) - any suggestions?

You're not gonna find a 'low traffic route' in the western 'burbs. If I were you I'd put my bike on the MAX and ride in the city.

A lot of THESE (http://www.portlandvelo.net/calendar/calendar.asp?ID=1) rides leave from 4893 NW 235th Ave in Hillsboro, just off Cornell Rd.

I'd also happily jump on the MAX or put the bike on (gasp!) my car to get to a nice place to ride - I'm thinking rolling hills, farms, wine country perhaps....I just haven't explored the area enough to know where to start. I'll remedy that situation soon, I'm sure.

In November, the Oregon Randonneurs (http://www.orrandonneurs.org/) are organizing two 100k populaires. Still a few weeks away, but they sound like fun.

On November 4, the Verboort Sausage Ride starts in Forest Grove, travels on rural roads on the western side of Washington County to end a couple of miles from the start at the Verboort Sausage festival (http://verboort.org/dinner/).

On November 24, the Wine Country Ride also starts in Forest Grove and travels south through the heart of the Oregon wine country during the Thanksgiving weekend, when all the wineries are open and welcoming visitors for tours and tastings.

Actually, there are lots of routes west and south of the growth boundary that are open and relatively quiet. Tile Flat Road in Washington County is a prime example. Rides towards Farmington, Scholls, Hagg Lake, the northern edge of Newberg, and Sherwood would all be excellent options.
