Touring - The End Is Near

My lbs told me that the next Trek 520 (2008 ?) will have an aluminum frame! WHY???:cry:

I emailed Trek and will post their answer.

I foresee a rapid sell out of existing stock if that's the case :)

Ah, maybe it's time for that Waterford or Rivendell.

That blows. Everyone write trek and tell them how you feel about it.

I just happen to have a 1987 Trek 8000 Aluminum that I've a zillion miles on.
You know, there are some people who actually LIKE aluminum frames.
For me, getting on other touring bikes is like riding spaghetti.

Here is the reply I received from Trek. Doesn't sound like they are confirming or denying the change.
I am not going to tell them who told me. My lbs is steamed at Trek. He also said they are going to send more production overseas and making only aluminum and carbonfiber frames.

I have a Trek 8000 and really like it. Not sure I'd like after a full day of loaded touring though? Love my '96 520, hope I never have to give it up.

Say... now maybe Trek should make them in a foreign country out of aluminum!!!!

I recently read bruce is selling his business, so act fast. Thorn looks like a great bike too.

Don't worry; Surly will just produce and sell more LHT frames.

Aluminum was like the poor man's Ti and a big selling point over steel during the 80s, so I never think of it as cheapness.

I don't know what the big deal is. I have a 2005 Cannondale T2000 and an 83 Centurion Pro Tour and they are both good bikes. But I do think it is a shame that Trek might change a very good reliable bike. I really like the Co-Motion Americano.
