Hallo users.

I have some question about a Basso frame that I got hold on couple a weeks ago. I wounder If anybody got some tips about the history of the bassoframes. Any good websites?

And also.. I have some problems with lowering the steam and handlebar. It has stuck, and I cant get it to move. The bolt on top is loos and also the lockingmechanism inside the frame. Is there any way to get the things in motion? By heat or something? I am desparate the basso is sooo neat, I really wanto have a good time with it.

Thanks!

Try using some penetrating oil on it overnight. Then after it has soaked, a good whack with a rubber mallet should help to free it.

Be very careful with brute force on a stuck stem ! Read posts about the problem " Stuck stem " should give you plenty ideas how to do it. I had to saw two grooves with a hacksaw-blade to get my stuck Cinellistem out of a Paganini Frame. I have two Basso Lotos, what kind is yours ? I love both of them. Well made frames that are much cheaper than some of the big Italian names.

Thank! for all answers.

I will be careful and see whats up.

The problems is that I dont relly know what type of frame it really is.

The fork and back is chrome. And it says "Basso" on the dropouts, otherwise lots of the classic "B" on the forks and frame. Underneath on the framebottom its printed "57". I am trying to figure it out but as far as I am, Iv got nothing! Pleas help me! Does anybody know any good Basso history sites or carts.

Thanks!

Probably a good one, but there's not nearly as much info on Basso as some of the other Italian marques, a shame cause they are a quality make IMHO. Here's a little quote from Richard Sachs, premier USA builder:
marino basso* raced for molteni. he won the world
championship as a professional. i think it was 1971 in
gap, italy. he kinda' fell into it there.
e-RICHIE
united states of america, where
it's not the judge, but the jury that counts!

*brother of the owner of the basso company,
though not a principle. i think his brothers
name is profundo.
...And another link to one of the catalogs, where you'll see that Sachs got the brother's name wrong:

Hallo Carlpalm,

Are you in the Netherlands by chance? If so there are some
very well versed collectors there, and they might be able
to give you some assistance.
I'd also suggest that you check the 3 catalogues
that are on Mark Bulgiers site

Hmmn....

I have a Basso that sounds like yours. The 57 should be the seattube length, though I don't recall if Basso measures center-to-center or, like Colnago, center-to-top. Usually makes a difference of 1-1.5 centimeters.

In the US Yellow Jersey bikes sells them and I noticed some vintage stuff like decals on their site awhile ago. Maybe still there? yellowjersey.org.

I got mine via ebay some time back. No fork and had been repainted. The rear triangle had been chromed but the repaint left only the chainstays chrome. Why? Who knows?

I repainted and redecalled (exc for head tube I need to talk to someone about making one) and run a S Record group on it. My fave retro for sure.

thats funny, just now I visit the bulgier site, some nice pictures. I think, as the pictures are showing that my frame would suite the 92 series. "basso92" as the frame are constructed. looks like it. and also I saw the decals on yellowjersey looks good but I need to find the story before I can bye the decals.

Soo.. What about the Dutch collectors, I m not in Holland at the moment but what do you know? Where can I get some help?
