Foo - Parents these days, they just don't listen.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Arg... so I bought my parents an ipod and told them to come over to my place with their CD's and I'll load them onto the player. Well I specifically said that it'll let them choose the songs and play order ON THE IPOD. In fact, I made sure to call them 3 times this week telling them that.
So they come over with a stack of CD's and this huge list on paper of which songs they want the unit to play first. ARGGGGGG!!!!

Do they each have an iPod? A good son would have gotten them each an iPod. :D
What's the rub. You told them to come over with they're CD's and they did. You also told them to tell you what songs the wanted and the order they wanted them, and they did... on paper. This way they don't have to hang areound and you won't forget the order. What's the beef? You have GREAT parents! :)

Maybe they can't read the bloody thing. Or maybe they're smarter than you and figured you could set the play order while they watch Imaginasian on your 60" hdtv in surround sound.
Next time, buy them a vinyl player :p

Did they want the whole list tp play at one time? :)
Or did they want a different first song each time the ipod was turned on? :D
Parents and technology aren't a good mix sometimes. It often makes them needy.

That stinks man, i do not own a ipod nor do i want one any-way. I prefer using a boom-box or a cd player.

I've gotten numerous phone calls from my mother because she inadvertently hit some button on the remote and can't turn the TV on.

Be patient, I know it's frustrating. When it comes to technology you may be the teacher and then they are the students. It's probably hard for them to be the students too.
It does not matter if you can succesfully teach them about the IPOD. What matters is that you get along well enough to invite them over to load it for them. And that you bought them a gift.
That rocks.

LOL... what does that say about you? ;)

Heh I meant that the order in which you put it in doesn't matter since they set the play order afterwards.
My parents would just give it to my little brother.

It says that he is taking computer advice from his 80 yr old grandmother.

No, you're missing the point. The order in which you put it in doesn't matter because you set the play order afterwards.

OK, I don't have an IPOD yet. I admit I am technologically bankrupt when it comes to IPODS. If I want to have some radio shows as well as music saved for later listening, will the IPOD do that? I presume there are some good IPOD setups that are good to listen while riding or doing yard work? What kind or model do others recommend?

You don't need an IPOD to do that. The amount of people toting the IPOD makes it unoriginal.

The number of people riding a bike makes it passe. There's lots of mp3 players available, but Ipods are actually pretty good and easy to use.

I think what he means is that they'll set the order "on the iPod" itself, as in doing it using the iPod menus. Personally, I think it's vague and ambiguous as it could also mean setting the order "on the iPod", meaning the order that it plays, rather than the process of setting that order.
My parents are like that too, so I have to always slow down and think about how they could misunderstand what I'm saying. With my friends, I'll say "IM me", but with my parents, I'd have to use simpler language with less jargon like, "Send me a text-message to my cell phone".

They do, it's their ipod. :p
