Foo - So how does the post count thing work anyway?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hmmm? I'm a bit confused, for instance, as to why a post to P&R II would count, but one to Foo doesn't. Hope I'm not being impertinent, but I'm kind of curious.

You must have missed the big hullabaloo a few months back, when all the game threads were locked. A lot of discussion at the time centered around post counts, and how they became inflated when one took part in those threads. Since the game threads were brought back, posts there no longer count toward post counts.
Okay, but why does P&R count, then? I'd say that it should be either all posts count, or *only* bike-related posts count. This half-and-half is a bit confusing.
Edit: I think the regional forums should be downgraded too, just to spite that SoCal "Whatcha doin'" rip-off thread ;) :D
Why do post counts matter? What do they signify other than you make a lot of posts? Do they imply credibility? Do they imply sagacity? Do they mean you're better than someone with a lower post count?
I'm really curious about the whole fixation on post counts because they mean nothing to me once you've got more than about 10 (and they're not all spam posts); and that's only to weed out those who register to spam the site.
I suppose they don't matter, and I didn't intend this thread to be a "make Foo posts count so I look cooler" sort of thing. I was just curious because there doesn't really seem to be a logical system. But you are free to speculate on the psychology behind the post count fixation :)

I don't get it either. Every other forum I use is dead on accurate with post counting, but bikeforums is anything but. Not that it matters.
Let's not all get up in arms about post counts again folks. We've been down this road before and frankly, no one wins. Posts don't count in Foo. Let the SoCal crew be the SoCal crew in their corner of BF's. Let the sleeping dogs lie.

Is there any way to actually determine a foorat's real post count?

Good news! By using the "spy" feature some loyal BF's member could manually count the post and keep a running record.
Have Fun! :D

Great! I'll get right on that! :D
Stacey, if you don't want this thing to get out of control (I didn't quite realise how sensitive the issue is), feel free to lock the thread.
