It's Bikeweek here in Perth, Western Australia.

To open Bikeweek we have an annual Bike to Work Breakfast. Any one who cycles into the city gets a free healthy breakfast.

There were around 2500 cyclists this year.

Here are some pics.

We've got something similar to that here. It's only been established for a couple of years, but it's growing fast.

Hey Chris - I'm sure you'll recognise the guy on the right.

One of the local radio staions does an outside broadcast each year at the Bike to Work Breakfast. This is their breakfast crew with their 'special guest'.

Mmmm!

:D

I want to jump into those pictures...

(Who is the guy on the right?)

It is a guy named Ian 'Molly' Meldrum.

He has been around the Australian music scene for many years, not as a performer, but as a TV host and interviewer.

Yeah, I remember him. That's not his usual hat, is it?

What was the menu, and who sponsors the breakfast? Looks like a lot of fun, the only problem here is that when I commute to work, I ride OUT of town!

No Chris, it's not his usual hat. It must be his morning hat. There was a pic in the paper today of him in his 'normal' hat at a Foxtel launch.

The menu - Blueberry muffins - corn flakes - apples - bananas - grapes - breakfast muffins with freshly barbecued mushrooms - yoghurt - brewed coffee. I think that was about it.

It is sponsored by a lot of local suppliers and the WA government cycling body - Bikewest.

As for riding out of town on your commute - I'm sure there are a lot of cyclists who don't work any where near the city who make an exception on that one day a year.

It's a great day for catching up with cyclists you haven't seen in ages.

I found out yesterday that Bikewest actually pays for all the food. They use some kind of `health promotions broker' to get the best deal they can - sort of as close to, or lower than wholesale price. I think this is just fantastic - a state government agency that can spend this kind of money to feed 2500 cyclists for breakfast.

I am always almost too full to make the trip to work afterwards.

Hey bfb2003 - I haven't put up the pics of you from the breakfast. I'll leave that to you if you want to post them.

I am so jealous, if we had something like that in Virginia I would be there with bells on. That event must be so much fun.

They do that over here (but inside obviously). I've missed the last couple though.
