I have a Schwinn Traveler 12 speed that I was riding yesterday and the rear wheel completely locked up going uphill. You couldn't pedal and it was as if the wheel was stuck in place. I managed to carry the bike home and it appears that I could unlock it by spinning the wheel backwards but it locks up if the wheel is spun forwards. Does anyone know what may be wrong here? Thanks.

I am kinda new at bicycle mechanics, but I'll suspect shot bearings in the hub. When was the last time you re-packed or replaced the bearings in your hub?

The bearing cones probialy tightened up. Take a wrench and loosen it, and see what happens. If you do not know what to loosen, look at the bolt that you tighten the wheel with. Its on the other side of that bolt. Towards the hub.
