Mountain Biking - mud tires

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am sure I could search for this, but I am not finding anything.
I just started racing this season, and last weekend was the first time I encountered wet trails in my life. Typically I just don't ride them. Anyway, my pythons quickly packed with mud and became essentially heavy slicks.
Does anyone have a favorite set of cheap mud tired I could keep around in case this happens again?

My favs are Panaracer Fire Mud Pro's.
I bought about 10 last year for $9/ea in a clearance sale.
Feel like they're still gripping even up in the air.
Best tires I've even ridden, period...

Try looking up some of these:
Maxxis Swampthing
Maxxis Wetscream
Michelin Mud
Specialized Evil Twin Slalom
WTB Timberwolf
I've seen the Wetscream sell pretty cheap on some online stores such as pricepoint and jensonusa for around $9 each.

I'm new to mountain biking and I'm not sure if this is a stupid question. If I got a set of tires mentioned above, would they be okay to use when it wasnt muddy or should I get a second set of wheels for when its muddy?

Please do not get the wetscreams, they were designed for the Les Gets DH course, and the tire isn't available in the US.

I'll second this. They're a great tyre and even moreso for the price. I switch off between the Fire Mud Pros and the Fire XC Pros depending on the time of the year or the specific trail. As a matter of fact, it's just about time for me to switch to the Muds now.
