Hey all
does anyone here have any experience with the backpack conversion addition that ortlieb sells for the back roller panniers? is it secure or shoddy? can you indeed walk around with it, etc with it feeling comfortable?
thanks!!

I have one. It was given to me by an online retailer when they made a mistake on an order, so keep in mind I didn't pay for it.

It's okay. Not great, not terrible, but okay. it's a bit bulky and needs to be stored in the pannier while it's on the bike It's not to bad in the comfort department as long as you don't have something poking you in the back. It's quite secure, the backpack attachment won't fall off while you are using it.

My wife uses the one we have when we cycle to the beach. For her it's okay. I perfer my Arkel Bug if I want a backpack pannier.

I agree with Ziemas, the backpack adaptor is OK but not great. It takes enough fiddling to get on and off the pannier that you wouldn't want to use it on a daily commute.

yet another vote for OK, not bad, not great. I thought I would use it a lot as I have a fair walk from where I park my bike to my office. I usually just carry the pannier. It's nice to have the option though. We rode downtown to just wander around and do a little shopping and it was nice to be able to take a pannnier to carry our purchases but be able to walk around with it on my back.

I have used the strap from the handlebar bag (Ortlieb Ultimate 3) to clip onto my Ortlieb Sport Packer. They seem to be designed to do just this. It strings across my chest like a messenger bag and can carry quite a bit of weight comfortably.
