Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Powdercoating over spray can painted bars?

This is possible right? I would think it is, but I am just checking. I got drunk the other night and decided it would be a great idea to hand paint my bars with spray paint. They look like a monster now. If I take it to a professional powdercoat shop, they can still work with them yea?

yeah the fine fine grade so it doesn't gouge the **** out of your bars, though if you're powdercoating them it doesn't matter. i'd slap some paint thinner (white spirit or turps) on first. don't even need actual stripper, though if you have some rock miracle or jasco around just wipe it on and then wipe that rattlecan stuff off with a rag. real easy fix for your moment of madness ;)

holy s*** bro. you did what when you got drunk? get some pictures of those bars uploaded. remember my spray-painted xbox controller? i never let it dry properly so it would flake all over peoples' hands when they used it.

since we are kind of on the topic. For those who have had powder done. Is it better to remove clearcoat before you take something to them? Is the price for them stripping it obscene? Also, do they sand-blast or anything that could kill the frame?

And.... what is the type of powder that can be done over chrome that lets the chrome shine through the color so it kind of looks like that christmas present wrap thats shiny and red?

Don't know the answer to the chrome question, but I do know this....

Most places will strip by blasting in one form or another, depending on the needs of the piece being coated. For frames the usual is bead blasting(Glass or plastic "beads" as opposed to sand). Sand isn't allways the enemy either. Probably more important to find a reputable shop, ask people that have had thier frames done,etc..., and feel out the people. As far as cost of stripping, I personally got quoted,and pretty consistently(3 shops) about $40.

True, but if you strip it the price will probably drop. All the quotes I got were including stripping, and then I mentioned that I could strip it and was given a price a bit lower.
