Be very, very glad you didn't have to hear me sing that!
So, did anybody else get unseasonably beautiful weather today?
I rode the Mineral Wells state trailway from the Weatherford trailhead to Mineral Wells (but not quite to the MW trailhead as the last 1 or 1-1/2 miles is in town and boring) then back out and up to Lake Mineral Wells State Park.
The sign to the state park says the trailhead is 2/3 of a mile. It forgets to mention it's 2/3 of a mile UP :( Actually, I made it okay but was definitely in granny and had to stop for a breather halfway up. Then, I made the mistake of riding over to the marina to buy some bottled water since the fountain at the trailhead wasn't working.
WOW, riding back up from the marina to the trailhead is a heck of a climb -- I was blowing like a beached whale by the time I reached the top. If I'm going to ride the trails around the lake much I think I'm definitely going to have to change out the Nexave crankset for a Deore with 22/32/44 chainrings!
Total was 39 miles at an average speed of 10.5 MPH (saddle time) though I was actually out for about five hours with breaks.
I didn't ride from the house to the trailhead this time. I figured out I can fit the bike in the car if I take both wheels and the front clipon fender off.
After I got home I checked my tires and found that I only had about 50 pounds in them. Note to self, next time check tire pressure at the start of the ride!
I was almost as strong at the end of the ride as at the start this time because this time I took some fuel along. I found some pretty good energy bars that are not too high in fat or sugars. Has anybody else tried the EAS Advant Edge Carb Control Nutrition Bars? My cardiologist insists that I watch both fat and carbs and these are the only bars I've found that taste decent, don't melt into a puddle in the heat, and aren't loaded with either saturated fat or sugar.
