I was thinking about how cycling has affected my awareness of the physical performance capability of my body.
With a car, motorcycle, and any other motorized form of transportation, you can spend extra bucks and get more horsepower, speed, performance, etc. With a bicycle (and other forms of human powered transport like skiing, running, walking, roller-blading, swimming, etc.,) you have to train your body to get that extra performance. And your body will respond.
So when I see a fast car, I think, "Yeah, so what? Push the gas pedal, that's all." When I see a cyclist I think, "Are they pushing a headwind? How far have they gone this week? Do they eat right? How far today, and how many hills? Are they tired, or are they in top form?" In any event, I think, "That cyclist will benefit from that ride and live to ride better tomorrow. Their body will be a better machine. They will have earned it."
When I get out of the car after driving, I am home--that's all. When I get off my bike after cycling, I take something with me:
a body better trained for the next time out. :D
Keep spinning!
