were you guys able to ride thru Camp Pendleton? I heard they stopped letting cyclists thru and you have to take the freeway??

I think I had heard they stopped it after 9/11. I hadn't heard that they are letting cyclists go thru again.

They had restricted access immediately after 9/11. Over time the base relaxed its policies again and you are now allowed to ride through the base. I personally don't like to ride through the base and take Highway 5 everytime I go North or South around Camp Pendleton. The freeway is safe and fast. If you are doing the Butterfield Double Century you might as well get use to using the freeway--- the route takes you on the 5.
If you plan on riding through the base wear helmet, carry your picture ID and ride single file.
