After much needed rest, this newbie wanted to thank:
mateo for organizing this ride.
Octico for mechanical support (new tire, we have to meet up so I can return your tire) and Mrs. Octico for driving a well stocked SAG wagon.
Grumpy Pig for staying behind and helped with the flat.
and to all of the riders for your encouraging words to make my first century and first BF ride an enjoyable and memorable one, thank you all.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents- a big thanks mateo44 for organizing a great ride! Thanks also to Mr. and Mrs Otico for hooking up the sag support! The gatorade and fig newtons were greatly appreciated!

Thanks also for everyone else for being so cool and supportive -mostly for letting me just draft for miles and miles :) It was my first time, and you were all so. . .gentle and loving :)

I look forward to more rides with you guys in the future.

(sheesh...didn't think I'd need a Catching up post, but)

Catching Up:
Team Defection turned the Burrito Century into the Subway Century...it was almost the Pizza century...and darned near the Chocolate Croissant from Starbucks Century.
Brandy: I have no problem being dropped. As the saying goes: "I'd really hate to see you go, but I love watching you leave". Besides, at mile 80, my legs felt like I'd have been dropped by a three legged cat on a tricycle. The motivation to crush the souls of the rest of the bunch was motivation to keep grinding.
Chimivee: + ...And post pics ASAP.
The Fixer: You had a protuberant spoke? I knew it couldn't be the same piece of glass. After being there for 2 of your problems, I don't know how you kept your patience and good spirits.
Voltman: Happy birthday.
cole505: Congratulations!!! I know after doing my first century just 2 weeks ago what a sense of elation and euphoria you must be feeling right now. Enjoy it, and bask in the accomplishment.

So did you all have some burritos? :D

I had one carnitas burrito and 2/3's of a carne asada burrito:D I was feeling it before we got to Torrey Pines hill and felt better when I was climbing it.

The ride was great, it was my first completed century in over a yr, so I was happy and thrilled I did this on less then 2 hrs of sleep:eek: I think I may have pushed it a lil too much going through the camp grounds and camp pendelton, I was feeling it in carlsbad and felt better after I had my burritos.

Thanks to everyone that put on the ride and the great sag support. I'm sore today and slept 12 hours which didn't seem like enough.

It looks like you guys had a blast and I'm definitely jealous.

Chimivee and I were cruising up it when there was this guy about 100 yds up ahead. He looks over at me and says, "Let's catch him!", then dials it up to 400 watts and catches him. I just watched him go.

I was actually disappointed as this was the 1st time I'd ever climbed Torrey (by bike), and the horror stories were a lot worse than the reality. Sure it hurt, but it was the only real climb of the day.

Great ride, guys! I'm so slammed at work, I can't even read all the various comments and such, but I know I'll be amply entertained.

Octico, please thank Christine again for providing support for this ride.

Matt, Melissa, thanks for coordinating!

Fixer, sorry you had such problems with your tire. We missed you at the end.

Great group - all you virgins, Debbie, April, Cole, Michael - amazing job at completing your first century! Ride time according to Jason was 6:20. Not too shabby. :D :D :D
