Southern California - December 10 Burrito Century?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Please note that the OFFICIAL Burrito Century thread is missing as of the system crash on 11/27. This is the new official ride thread.
Join us for the first annual BURRITO CENTURY. Sunday December 10, 2006.
Meet at Irvine Amtrak Station, 15215 Barranca Parkway, Irvine, CA 92618 at 6:15am. We roll at 6:45am sharp. Our destination is the San Diego Amtrak Station, 1050 Kettner Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92101. Approximately 102 miles.
This is a social, no drop ride. Undoubtedly, slower and faster groups will form. The key principle is looking out for your fellow BF riders.
Also, be sure to bring a valid picture ID. You absolutely need this for riding through Camp Pendelton.
WEATHER UPDATE 12/9:
Irvine, San Clemente, and Oceanside: 30% chance of morning showers on 12/10.
Route slips will be distributed at the ride. I may bring them to the party Saturday night as well. Here are the rest/regroup stops. I am posting them here in case you are unfamiliar with the areas. In that case, you may want to stare at a map for a bit before the ride.
Rest stop #1. 7-11 Store, 1118 S. El Camino Real, San Clemente 92672. It's at the corner of El Camino Real and Avenida Pico. It may be slightly off course, as the course takes us through the San Clemente train station lot. But the 7-11 is pretty obvious, and you should have no trouble seeing it. It's about 34 miles into the route. For those of you that did the BF ride to Solana Beach this summer, it's the same 7-11 we stopped at.
Lunch Stop: Lunch will be in the area surrounding the Solana Beach Amtrak Station. The address is 105 North Cedros Avenue, Solana Beach, CA 92075. It's quite visible from PCH, to your left (the non-beach side of PCH) once you've ridden south on PCH for a while. There are many food options there. Groups can eat where ever they like, based on time of arrival and preferences. Burritos aren't mandatory. This is approximately 65 miles into the ride. That's approximate, though.
Rest stop #3: La Jolla Village Square, at the corner of Villa La Jolla and Nobel Drive. Lots of options there.
Please respond (yes, again) to this thread saying if you're in or a "maybe."

I'm in(terested).
Sounds interesting. I'd consider it.
sounds fun, I should be there.

Is this ride opened to the "ignored"? Sounds like it would be fun but I'd have Gina pick me up in SD cause trains put me in a bad mood! I should be back in shape by then.:D
Will there be markers on those that eat burritos so that we will know who not to draft?:p

I'll do it. I've wanted to ride the Amtrak century and this will allow me to do just that (sort of). Thanks for suggesting. :D

I might be able to round up a few others if you don't mind. Don't worry, they're nothing like me!:D

Tour de Olé?
I'm interested right now. Only problems I see are that it's a Sunday and it's during the Christmas, Thanksgiving season, so things can get iffy around that time.

I try to keep my mind off the holiday season by doing other things...:D Like millions of other Americans, I hate the holidays.....well, except for Thanksgiving Day...:D

I'm interested, but who's driving the sag wagon? :D

Yeah, you do have a point about the holidays. I used to love the holidays and didn't understand why people hated them, but now that I'm divorced, I completely understand. The only reason I might not go is that we sometimes switch weekends with my daughter on short notice around that time and it's tough to plan ahead for weekends when I know I'll be alone.

Will guage my fitness as the day draws near - interested but might not be ready for 100 miles by December...
(1) Scheduling. December 10 may be the day after the BF holiday party. Right? Is that a problem?
That's my only issue...a century the day after a late night could be hard.

I know it's tough, but riding after going to bed at 9 the night before is doable.

We could all bring our sleeping bags to the party. Then sleep in a big circle with the alarm clock in the middle. And when the alarm clock goes off, each person can be responsible for prodding the person to the right to get out of bed.
Or, we could use bitingduck's suggestion.
Okay...I'll have to be a maybe. I doubt that I could get out on a Saturday night and all day on Sunday for a ride, so I'll have to be in for either the party or the ride, but not both.

What if he held a spandex-clad holiday party immediately after the ride? Continued on the train.

Just hurry to grow old like we did and have grandkids! Then you can send everybody away whenever you want!:D
Damn...I keep wanting to do that ride, but I'll be in Vegas that weekend for a Half Marathon.

Why don't you just hold off on Vegas until they find the other half?

What if the person to our left never wakes up?... We'd be in an infinite circle of never-ending sleep.

They also have the other half that day, I just chose not to do it as it would severely impact the ability to party afterwards :-)

We need to find a restaurant in SD to eat before we head back on the train. I had some fish tacos at a place pretty close to the train station! mmmmm fish tacos....

Consider yourself convinced. Good idea on the restaurant. I'm never picky about food, even on days I don't ride 100 miles. So whatever the group decides is fine with me.

Should we just switch the party to the third weekend in December?

Should we just switch the party to the third weekend in December?
The last thing I intended was for the burrito ride to mess up the holiday party. Since the party was agreed on first, it seems only fair to move the burrito ride. That is, of course, if people think something should be moved.
The main logic behind the Dec 10 date was after that we're really far into the holiday season, and no other rides were planned for December. Originally, I Melissa and I came up with the date and I decided to post it, not thinking so many would be interested. Thus, I underestimated its potential impact on the party.
Not sure what to do, except repeat that I think if something gets moved, it should be the ride.
One strategy might be to propose other dates for the ride, and then pick the one that the largest number of people can make. But that smacks of "voting" which could lead us down a path of no-return.
I don't really care which one is moved, Tiff and I would really like to participate in both though and that will be impossible if they're on the same weekend. So...doesn't matter to me. :D

Ok, I am officially saying yes to this ride, I have 2.5 months to get ready, but we will see how things go between now and then... I want a century before stagecoach and the new years day century with RBC...

not sure if she's ready for a century, although she did fine on a metric at the cool breeze. also as owner of a greeting card company, the holidays are pretty busy for her.
