Mr. Beanz,
The three-club ride went very well. I think there were over 100 riders. I was a bit aprehensive because the weather report was calling for Sant Ana winds. Fortunately, they didn't kick up until the last few miles.
The ride to Cal Poly went mostly along Baseline. Not a problem because the traffic was light. We skirted the fairgoronds traffic. At the rest stop there were cookies, muffins, bananas, & other stuff. This was provided by the Cycling Connection.
The ride back was a little different than the ride out. We climbed the hill at Fairplex drive. I was doing about the same speed as the cars that were lined up to enter the fair. Then we took Mckinley over to Claremont. Then we got on Arrow Highway and took that all the way back to RC. The only snafu we ran into was in Claremont. There was a SUV pulling out of a parking spot. I slowed for it but one rider in our group pulled along side and started yelling at the driver. The driver started following the person who yelled and I thought there might be an altercation. No worries, though. After a block the driver turned in a different direction.
The temperature was perfect and the wind cooperated for the most part. I saw a lot of cool bikes and met a lot of cool people. I rode with a guy who was riding a titanium-framed Schwinn. I had never seen one before. On the way back I was with a group of about eight and we got a paceline going of about 18 - 20 mph. Had a good time. Didn't bring the (wife's) camera, though.

Thanx. Sounds like you guys had a good time! I like the Fairplex hill. I used it all last year while doing loops around Bonelli park. On the way did the group ride up the hill that runs along the 57/210? I think it's San Dimas Ave. to Via Verde? That's another cool training hill!
I try to get Gina out on the club rides but she's kinda shy. 100 people, wow, that's alot!
Thanx for the report.

The wife and I have been looking into clubs. We inquired into the Redland one but they dont have many slow rides (for the wife). I was also looking into RBC, but Cycling Connection is out for political reasons I may write about later.
