Hi all, I am totally new to the bike forums, so bare with me

I have a ironhorse yakuza chimpira, and want to make it into a singlespeed. I asked a friend if I could do it to my bike and he said no because I need horizantal dropouts, is this true?

It's easier with horizontal drops, but not impossible otherwise. Try the Singlespeed forum.

It is NOT true. There are a few companies that make rear hubs to convert a geard bike to an SS. You will also need to get a chain tensioner for an SS. Woodman Components make a good hub and PAUL makes a good tensioner.

I have done it to a few of my bikes.

Maybe i'm missing the point, but what is the point of changing a bike to a singlespeed?

Is it just ease of use and easier to maintain???

Good for fitness, pedal technique, maintenance, and the hip factor. Plus you can do sweet trackstands.

Yes it is totally possible and very easy to do to nor do you need to buy a new hub.
Just buy these two things and your set.

Gezzz its a small world! Yup that was me and I was watching you all day;). You were wearing a plastic chest protector right? If so you are amazing, I was watching you trying to do a truckdriver over that huge dirt jump, did you ever land that?? And where else is there to bike? The bone has some good small begginer stuff for me, but every thing else is HUGE!

There is an equation where you can figure out what you need to make a ss out of a bike that has vertical dropouts, problem is I don't remember it.

Yeah that was me, so nice of you to point out a gay a$$ chest protector:o but I recently ruptured my spleen so its either use it or don't ride.

And I wasent doing truckdrivers I was doing 360 with a x-up witch I did land at the very end. A truckdriver is a 360 and a barspin, much harder.

As for other places to ride there use to be a bunch of dj around loyd beach but they were all torn down like a month ago:( . There are some in wheeling but those are pretty big too but smaller than the big djs at the bone, beside those I am building a huge 8 pack in a ravine by my house and your more then welcome to watch me and my friends session. (the smallest is a 13ft gap)

IM me sometime and I'll tell you how to get to some of these jumps, and maybe hit some off em together.
