Is 853 tubing tig welded or what? Is there much weight diff between the two? I have an aversion to big ugly welds.

"tig welded" versus "or what"
Yeah... the or what welds are really ugly. Stay away from them.

Reynolds 853 is air-hardened, and may be TIG welded or brazed, using lugged or lugless construction. I don't know anyone that likes "ugly" welds, but filleted brazed tubing joins are beautiful to me; the joins look as though the frame is scupted from a single piece of tubing. The weight difference between similar frames (size and tubing material) made using brazed lug construction, TIG welded construction and fillet brazed construction is so negligible that only a compulsive weight weenie would worry about it.
Just MHO (..and I love nice lugged frames, too).

Actually fillet brazed joints are gorgeous...'preciate the useless response tho. I have a brazed 731 OS frame now.
