So I just got into biking at the beginning of this year, however I didn't actualy buy a bike until June. Well my goal for the end of the year was to complete a century. 3 months later, I did it. 6 hours 15 minutes.
It was the weekend before last, me and a few other local bikeshop guys rode it. From the start, I took it easy because my previous longest ride was 60 miles and like clockwork, the instant I rolled over 50 my legs cramped up like it was the end of the world. I was affraid the same would happen during the century so we took it easy from the start. At the end, i'd averaged 16.4ish. The funny thing is, I could've kept going after I finished(but i didnt..). I definately think I took it to easy. But that's ok because my 2nd century is this Sunday, so I'm gonna see how fast I can push myself to finish it.
Overall.. I love it. From my first ride back in June of 10 of the most hellacious miles ever, to this. I really love the sport and I can certainly see this as being the gateway into different aspects of the sport. Next years goal: Triathalon, endurance race, and maybe try some sort of sprint event. Who know's where this will lead!
I'll post pics of the upcoming century this weekend, I'll be solo and have my camera so hopefully I'll get a few good shots.
