So I just got into biking at the beginning of this year, however I didn't actualy buy a bike until June. Well my goal for the end of the year was to complete a century. 3 months later, I did it. 6 hours 15 minutes.

It was the weekend before last, me and a few other local bikeshop guys rode it. From the start, I took it easy because my previous longest ride was 60 miles and like clockwork, the instant I rolled over 50 my legs cramped up like it was the end of the world. I was affraid the same would happen during the century so we took it easy from the start. At the end, i'd averaged 16.4ish. The funny thing is, I could've kept going after I finished(but i didnt..). I definately think I took it to easy. But that's ok because my 2nd century is this Sunday, so I'm gonna see how fast I can push myself to finish it.

Overall.. I love it. From my first ride back in June of 10 of the most hellacious miles ever, to this. I really love the sport and I can certainly see this as being the gateway into different aspects of the sport. Next years goal: Triathalon, endurance race, and maybe try some sort of sprint event. Who know's where this will lead!

I'll post pics of the upcoming century this weekend, I'll be solo and have my camera so hopefully I'll get a few good shots.

Congrats on the first century and doing a solo century for your second century! Start slow so that you can finish strong!

update: finished my second one this past sunday. i shaved 30 minutes off my total time at least. i finished 102 miles in 5:45 and averaged about 17.4-17.6. I love it, going to possibly do it again for Columbus Day.

Congrats! Those are some nice times for your first two centuries ever. Keep some good base conditioning over the winter and you'll be an animal by mid-summer! Check out http://www.ultracycling.com/ and http://www.rusa.org/ for some longer rides in your neck of the woods.... I'm betting that it won't be long before you're wondering what lies beyond 100 miles!
