Here's the forecast:

Looks like Civil Twilight is at 5:58 am, so we can leave 3 minutes earlier. ;)

Thanks Tracy and Jeff. Harrah's would work and is only about 3.5 mi away.

What's valley view?

Harrah's has a 3 story parking structure, if you park on top, it should be alot quieter. Valley View is the casino right behind the middle school we're meeting at.

Nope. If you handed me a helmet and told me to paint it with flames, numbers, custom graphics, etc...I'd somehow manage to catch a fish.

I certainly can't do what you do, dog hair. Not without a huge amount of training, and I'm not even convinced I could do it then. If for no other reason, my hands shake uncontrollably. Never mind my total lack of artistry.

only time you have to worry about steady hands is when you're doing fine detail.

i seriously bet i could teach anyone to do this!

Hi all, just want to ask what type of clothing you suggest for this ride.

1) Will arm warmers + leg warmers be fine?
2) Need for a cycling jacket?
3) Headband/mask?
4) Full fingered gloves?

Thanks!

Hey guys....

if there is anything you need me to bring... please let me know by tomorrow; otherwise, I'll assume you're bringing everything you need ;)

I'll see ya at 5:30 saturday

you'll need all that stuff for the beginning decent from Valley View down to the base of the Mt. You will prolly be stripping off layers on the climb.

I plan on wearing a short sleeve, with arm/leg warmers, full finger warm gloves and windbreaker from the start. I will prolly ditch the jacket somewhere on the bottom of the climb. By the time we get to the South Grade fork, the sun will be up and keeping us warm.

I'm going with arm and leg warmers, windbreaker, full fingered gloves, and a headband in reserve. And carrying knee warmers and fingerless gloves for if it gets warmer. Keep in mind that with SAG support, there's no reason not to bring a little extra. Better to have it and not want it than to want it and not have it. Going solo would be a different story... I don't regret shivering uncontrollably for the first few minutes when I did the Pie ride solo. Bringing along extra stuff just for the sake of comfort on the initial descent just wasn't worth it since I would have had to drag the stuff around all day long.

Thanks for the idea... I think I'd rather be nearby the start... Once I'm hunkered down in the back of my van, there's not much of a view anyway.

Yeah, that would probably work... although, 3rd level might be kind of shakey up there.

I'll probably just play it by ear... check out Harrah's and see. Anything will be better than waking up at 3am to drive down from my house.

Listen to Jason when it comes to bringing supplies.

Also, I have 2 2.5 gallon water jugs at my place left over from the camping trip. so I'll bring those and fig newtons, chocolate covered peanut butter filled pretzels, and a few other goodies for everyone to snack on.

You kids be safe tomorrow. I'm soooo jealous. Please take lots of pics (as if I need to ask) and post them tomorrow evening (if you still have enough energy left over). And, eh-hem, any shots of a certain set of legs are most appreciated...in fact, another montage, perhaps? :D :p :D

James...are you planning on spending the night? I might do the same if I don't hear from worker4youth by the time I get home from work this evening. If I do I'll park in a shopping center somewhere there's food and bathroom available like a large gas station, for instance. We were originally planning on carpooling and leaving early in the morning.

Southbound on the 15 I can take 76 or take the next exit (gopher canyon rd??)>>champagne rd>>old castle rd>>lilac rd>>valley center>>north wohlford rd.
Anyone taken this route before?

I'd take the second option (its the way I'm going).... take the gopher canyon/old castle exit, go left back under the freeway, right at the light and then the first left (golf course at that corner).... you'll stay on this road until it dead ends into valley center road at which point you'll turn left and follow that to the middle school/wohlford road....

Fixer,

there is virtually nothing in valley center like a large gas station etc.... your best bet is one of the casinos... if you continue on valley center road past the middle school and down the hill, you'll hit Harrah's... (or just behind the middle school is valley view casino - you can't miss it) the other option is to come into valley center through escondido via valley parkway (turns into valley center road)... there are quite a few places along that road to stop for food etc. and its only another 10 minutes from there to the middle school...

yes, that would work too ... you'll go over a hill and down a fairly long grade... once you pass the other end of lake wohlford road you'll start seeing civilization...

If you aren't familiar with the roads, I would suggest 15 south, exit Valley Parkway (S6), go east about 10 miles or so and turn right on Lake Wohlford Road.

The bad part is that this route goes through Escondido and a bunch of urban traffic with stop lights.

You won't see the Middle School, but look are ALL the signs that point to Valley View Casino, the casino is up on the hill, the middle school is at the bottom of the hill, on the corner with Valley Center Road.

it could also be that I'm familiar w/the area... our old house is right across valley center road from valley view casino... you've just got to get onto the right road and stay there ;)

I'll be hitting 15/old castle about 5 so if anyone is unsure, just wait for me and you can follow me from there...
