right now i'm emptying the delivery trucks in the morning with my roommate for puma. the 201 came in so we snagged it. it's sorta interesting, although i'll admit i didn't make it through the whole thing. i've got some scans and i'll send them to whoever wants them, as long as you promise not to pay money for it over ebay. but before warned, my scanner stinks.

Thank you for having my back. yea what's the beef if im tryin to see if i can learn new tips from a book. im sure you guys weren't born experts. you learned yourself, saw other people ride, and read things in a book. remember how it was for you'all when you first learned how to ride, then use that to help other not make fun of them for not knowing. grow up people.

100 times better than any marketing drivel puma is going to put out.

And Gyeswho, none of us were born on a fixed gear, but none of us learned to ride because of puma. We practiced, rode, observed, learned from friends, sheldon, other web pages. I doubt any of us here learned (or have learned) much of anything from puma ads.

People aren't making fun of you because you're new to fixed gear, its because you are claiming you want an advertising brochure and 'don't want to pay for it'

Come on, man. Think about what you did. You got on the interweb to ask a message board how to find a guide to learn to ride your bike in the city.

An ounce of common sense goes a long way when riding in the city.

But, you learn from the experience of others...by RIDING with others! I know it's a new paradigm, but I swear it works.

Where is he? We don't know. Perhaps he is young and doesn't know any other riders. Perhaps there aren't any other riders in his city. I know that here in Riga, a city of almost a million people there are two of us that ride fixed. Yes, two.

Don't harsh on somebody for asking for access to information. Good information is good information no matter the source.

BTW, what kind of shoes do you wear?

Because I beleive in access to information and I find the self-rightous attiude of the people against this book sickening.

There seems to be the attitude that because Puma put out the book that the book is bad. We all wear corprate clothing, it's damn near impossible not to, but to benifit from something that a corpration put out, well, that's bad.....

I like your implication that someone who finds out about riding fixed through Puma is somehow less worthy of a rider than someone who did. Furthermore, with specific reference to the Puma 101 guide (as I haven't seen the 2nd), this comment of yours is ridiculous:

He doesn't want to learn from the experience of others though, he wants to learn from the experience of [insert Puma logo]

Unless I'm mistaken, people like Squid - the experience of whom you are denouncing - have been riding a lot "harder" and a lot longer than you (these seem to be the two forms of currency that matter most on this board).

The speed and voracity with which people try to exclude others from a community or - more accurately - question their "authenticity" is a strong indication to me of those people's own insecurity about their position within said community.

Mcatano,
No one is questioning anyone's "authenticity." The quote from Shiznaz to which you referred certainly doesn't.

We're just questioning the validity and authenticity of Puma 201, which since you haven't seen you can't really attest to.
I've seen and read it. It's garbage. And SHOULD NOT be used as a tutorial.

these aren't even arguments, they're people with a dire need to be right wasting their time endlessly trying to prove that their opinion is the 'truth'.

if people want to hate, let them hate. if people want to help, let them help. nearly every single thread that hit's 2 pages does so by either jocking one member or another, or arguing semantics.

i'm neither hating nor helping, i'm just pointing out the obvious. look at nearly every thread on this board that goes over 2 pages. the majority of the time it does so because of some ridiculous argument based around someone making a sarcastic comment, then someone else feeling the need to chastise that person. time and time and time again it happens.

i don't mind bickering and i don't mind bull****, i just wish people would make it more entertaining.

1) IMO, they are and it does. That's just me though.
2) Then why not just say that in the first place? (You don't really have to answer this question).

Also, Rustang - I like arguing. It makes me feel better about myself, because I am a small, petty person filled with self-righteousness and an overblown sense of self-importance, especially when it comes to the veracity of my beliefs.

I was just responding to the OP telling me to 'grow up', and shattering my long held belief that I was born a master of fixed gear.

So I suggested an actually useful book to read (that I own)

BUT now that you mention it I was questioning his authenticity as a fixed gear rider. He may just be an SS rider that never stops pedaling!
