View Full Version : Can your friends "read" you?

The first thing someone says upon seeing me today was: "What happened to your bike?"

And then another BFer yahoos me saying, "I know you don't want to talk about it but cheer up. I don't want to see my buddies sad".

And Boogs: "Uh...so how was YOUR day???"

Three different instances. In person, yahoo and phone. These were all said to me before I mentioned my bike. Dang. Didn't realize my bikes meant so much to where it shows when I'm upset about them.

Yes, totally.

My friend and I are totally on the same wavelength. One time we were at one of those "grown up parties" (the ones with wine, a cheese tray and board games instead of a keg, pizza, and drunken shenanigans) and this game we were playing involved having to describe a word without using the actual word, and your partner has to guess the word withing the time-limit.

I picked up the card, it said Mermaid, so I said "Manatee". Without skipping a beat he replied "Mermaid."

Everybody in the room was amazed.

What's wrong with your bike SBW?

Just got an IM from a friend. She said, "Want a margarita???"... geee... how did she know I was feeling down today? :)

That's what I was about to say. Looks like some of us are out of the loop.

I know the feeling crono. Often times me and my friend will either say the same expression at the exact same time, or finish eachothers sentences. It's weird.

I don't need friends

Yes, unfortunately.

I used to think myself cool, aloof and hard to read....but its total crap. I wear my heart on my sleeve. I don't know how many times my friend will suddenly back off because he KNEW he just pissed me off. Or ask me what's wrong because he/she can tell something is bothering me.

So....what happened to your bike, siu?

I may wear my heart on my sleeve, but people always get it wrong...

That sounds mighty familiar to me. Sorry about your bike Siu, and yeah what happened to it?

Actually, strangely, I've been able to read friends to some extend.

My friends all know... It's the little kids at the mall that constantly read me. :)

Pointing a finger in my direction... "Mommy, is that a man or a lady?"

I can be read pretty easily at times. It's just I have to keep my mind on so many things at once, that it's pretty easy for me to brush some bothers off until a time I can deal with them.

The many things on my mind is a little problem I have...if I cannot keep my mind spinning at all times, I WILL fall asleep....I have no idea why this is, but it's pretty annoying. On the bright side, it's really easy for me to get some sleep, when I have time that is :)

My roommate and I at university were able to communicate almost entirely in initials. It got to the point where one day I said to him, "L is a T of F and P" and he correctly understood me to mean, "Lent is a time of fasting and penance". There was an odd silence after we both realised what had just happened.

I think I can be read pretty easily - but not all my friends have the same "reading level".

So is that why you didn't take the time to spell "GoobChoob?" :p

Actually, (and without any irony/sarcasm) that's exactly it! Great minds again, eh?

Edit: The full story of "cb" is too involved for Foo, but I'd guess that you could take a pretty accurate stab at "gb".

Yes. My friends can read me like a book. In fact, just yesterday I had a very bad day and a very special person knew all the right things to say to me to make me feel better. :)

Awww Shadiyah ((hugs)) to you. I hope all is better for you now. I've been in a funk myself lately but with a few friends from here talking to me, my spirits have been up. And of course, my sweetie said the best thing ever. I totally understand!! *girl moment*....:o ((super hug))

Awww thanks Siu! I'm sorry you were feeling down as well! We all have our moments, don't we? It's all part of the ebb and flow of human life. It really is amazing how far a little love and understanding can go, though.

I had a friend earlier on in college who I could read like a book. Nothing ever got past me with her, no matter how bad she tried hiding a problem, I'd pick up on it before she said a word. Used to drive her mad that I was that good at it too. Me and her had a long history of ups and downs, I was head over heals for her, she kept dating jerks and breaking her heart, guess I had practice reading when the latest guy was on his way out huh?

On the flip side, I'm fairly open about my mood too, some people can read me better than others. But usually, if I'm having an off day, I don't tend to hide it very much. I'm usually very easy going and a good person to talk to, so when I'm really not in the mood to hear about someone else's problem, it's probably a good thing people realize this before I go off on them about how I don't need to hear it. ;)

All of my boyfriends "read" me. I especially like it when my blind boyfriends "read" me, because they read braille. ;)

Ok, serious wierdness today. No more than 30 seconds after I posted this reply, the old friend in question emailed me. I had not heard from her in about a year.

I've always been able to read all my friends really well...I haven't met anyone that could read me however. Probably cause I keep problems and everything to myself.
