Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - I did not know Bianchi had all these new SS/FG bikes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Where have I been?

http://bianchiusa.com/07_lewis.html

I guess the mountain ones are replacements for the P.U.S.S and G.U.S.S but what about the first two, which by the way have my all time favorite gearing 48x17.

I'm in love

Would I buy it? No, but the Fremont makes a lot of sense for the 99.9999% of cyclists who may be interested in the benefits of fixed gear riding but:
1. don't ride on the track (or even live within hundreds of miles of one)
2. don't deify messengers
3. aren't interested in finding obscure parts for vintage conversions

I like it. It seems to fit the bill for my quest for a 'roadie' fixed gear. I ride a conversion I love, but it needs a modern friend.
Is the hub flip ready for a 15t cog fixed?

I would def ride the Roger and the Lewis...but they def need to put a smaller chainring on the Roger.

Could one have a flip flop rear built for the Roger with discs on each side?

all these new bikes, but the san jose still rules on or off road with just a tire change. even after you thrown in an extra $100 for a double fixed rear wheel, it's still the better value

What's up with the el-cheapo conponents on the fremont...those levers look like they're circa 1989! and the mixture of black and silver components makes it look like somebody cobbled together a fixie conversion!! At least none of their new bikes come with a rattlecan paintjob or "flip n chop" bars

I guess it was a good thing Sky Yeager left as head designer of Bianchi.

I think her only serious contributions were white panel champion stickers(Yay!) and animal print saddles(WTF?).

Those and the 100 percent chick designed stickers, which I actually don't mind for some reason. My 3 sisters love that I'm riding a "baby green" bike with a little chick on the bottom of the down tube.

The Fremont is nice. Lewis is just a new GUSS or MUSS or whatever from what I can tell... Rita is their answer to the Rig (everybody has a 29'er SS this year, it seems).

ps, the roger, pretty awesome, disc brakes need to catch on more with road bikes. (yes I know it's a cyclocross bike)

She did the design on the RITA I believe it was her last project....one of the ss mtb sites has an interview with her I don't remember which one.

IRO doesnt offer an off-the-shelf aluminum frame/carbon fork/integrated headset fg bike. don't take it out of context.

Why? they are heavy, expensive and uneccessary for most.

integrated headsets are garbage and a carbon fork is an option on the jamie roy. you don't get to take it off of any shelves, but it they do offer delivery.

edit: okay, that was harsh. they're not garbage, they're just problematic, especially when they get old. imho, ymmv and all that crap.

Cool, so when are you going to take the grips, and leather seat covering off your bike? I mean they just add weight, cost money and are unneccessary...

also the page does imply it's the first fixed gear bike with road geometry...

The Kona Paddy Wagon also seems to fill the fixed roadie niche....cept without the carbon fork.

Actually if done properly, they can be a similar weight and offer much more aerodynamics than regular rim brakes.

However, I am not suggesting that at this present time we have seen an example of that. Other than hints at EuroBike this summer.
